Tumor attached to 2 vessels

My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer yesterday. His tumor is attached to 2 vessels so the surgeon doesn’t want to operate. Are there any surgeons at Mayo that will operate when attached to 2 vessels? Can he get whipple if attached to vessels?

My impression after months of research and evaluations, is it depends on what stage of cancer. If he’s stage IV, like me, then he is probably inoperable. If not stage IV, Dr Truty at Mayo in Rochester sounds like the most willing to try-or at least consider it.

With stage IV, after a year’s regimen of chemo, I found articles by Dr Crane at Memorial Sloan Kettering who administers a radiation technique not offered many places. He’s had some success at extending lives and rates are similar to those who have had whipple surgery. So far it is working for me and I’m so grateful for time off Chemo as I have been feeling better and better and and tumor is stable and blood markers are dropping. There were no promises made, as everyone is different, but he is definitely worth contacting. He has also consulted with my local oncologist and keeps her in the loop - found one willing to be more aggressive and collaborate with other doctors.

Hope this helps. It’s all so scary but this is a good site for info and support. Best of luck.

Hi there I am glad to hear your markers went down and you are feeling better. Can I ask what what your year of chemo consisted of? My sister in law got diagnosed at 40 stage lV inoperable she took a break and although her main mass stayed at bay she has new lesions and ascites in her stomach lining.
I will tell her about your radiologist, if there is anything that can be done. Everyone has their own journey this site is great for sharing their experiences. Best wishes of good health

@nunz12 what about hot chemo in the stomach only?

I never heard of that. But I will mention to her.

@jrdsorensen, if you would like to inquire about treatment options at Mayo Clinic, you can submit a request for a second opinion here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

How is your dad doing? How are you doing?
