Tulsa Pro and Insurance
Seriously considering TULSA PRO. I appear to be a very good candidate due to my localized tumor location in the transitional zone (nearer to the urethra). PSA 4.5, Gleason 3+4=7 in one core, PIRAD 5 spotted on MRI, location is front base left side. Anyways, talking to a couple of centers in Florida that do TULSA PRO one is cash only and other is Mayo Jax. If you’ve done TULSA PRO focal ablation (not whole gland) what was your cost and were you able to get insurance to pay for any of it? If you did it at Mayo Jax did they help you with insurance? It seams to be very pricy at these cash only facilities. Just curious.

@ucfron Have you gotten anything done? I've got similar results.
@kaphur Yes, on Dec 10th I had a Hemi Gland Tulsa Pro at Mayo Jacksonville. Several things led me to this precedure. First my tumor was in the interior of my prostate and was pushing on my ureathra causing urinary issues. My prostate was not large at 40cc, and the location was on the front half left of my prostate. Mayo ablated the front half of my prostate from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock on Dec 10th. I wore a catheder for a week which was misserable. Once I had it removed I had a hard time urinating and it sprayed everywhere but that only lasted 2-3 days. Since then I have a much stronger stream and no urinary issues at all. I also started to get erect about 2 weeks after the catheter was removed without any medication and had sex about 3 weeks after the procedure. I have felt great with zero issues at all except an occasional cramp like feeling in my lower abdomen but not bad at all. I returned to Mayo for my 3 mos PSA test and it dropped to 0.51 (from a high pre-precedure 4.5). Oncologist said outstanding results and better then expected. He expects it to drop slightly more at my next 6 mos visit and bottom out between 6-12 mos. It will never go to zero since I still have about half of my prostate, the back half which is where all the important stuff is. I do have a reduced amount of ejactulation but I do have some and it’s lighter in color then before. All in all I am extremely happy spent the time evaluating all the different options, talked with 9 different Drs at 3 centers including both Moffitt and Mayo, and decided to do Tulsa Pro at Mayo. My results were outstanding. I will continue to follow up every 3 mos and possibly get another MRI in a year. I’m praying this solves my issue and I can get back to my life. Also, since I had met my out of placket max for the year, my BCBS Anthem paid 100%. No deductible at all.
