Need info about my high red blood cell count & low platelet count?
I am having a problem with my red blood cell count and am hoping someone can help me understand better what is going on with my health...
My red blood cell count is sky high and my red blood platelet count is almost bottomed out...
I do understand that my spine makes the red blood cells, but what would cause the high red blood count and the low blood platelet count...
Any help would be truly appreciated...
Thank you all in advance,
Phil...

Hello Phil, welcome to our Mayo Clinic Connect group. There are a variety of causes for high red blood cell count and low platelets.

It’s disturbing when you get your lab reports from the patient portal before you have a chance to discuss them with your physician. I think most of us can relate. There is a lot of information from “Dr Google,” but the best resource is your own physician, who knows the big picture.
Have you been referred to a hematologist? It was frustrating for me how long it took to get in to see one but I was persistent.
How were your high red count and low platelets discovered?
I’m having the same issues and having a hard time getting in to see a hematologist
Welcome @larrea61 It’s so frustrating when you feel something is wrong with your health but unable get the care you expect.
You mentioned having similar issues to the original posting by @phildedrick, with high red counts and low platelets. Did you recently have bloodwork taken by your primary care physician? Were they not able to give you a referral to a hematologist?
