Sphincter issues, rectal tenesmus, radiation enteritis, hernias

Posted by emstorm @emstorm, Nov 11 12:49pm

I have low functioning anal sphincter, rectal tenesmus, radiation enteritis, tortuous colon and 5 hernias in small bowel area. this all follows cysectomy with a section of my colon used for uteral conduit plus aggressive radiation and chemo. My GI doctor says there is nothing he can do since I am loaded with scar tissue after 5 surgeries. I am miserable every waking minute of every day. Pain, tension, uncontrollable bowels and a fight to overcome depression. I am going crazy!!!!

Maybe another doc could help ? Probably a rectal/colon surgeon… scar tissue happens but shouldn’t affect one so much on a daily basis. Wishing you better days !

I asked my doctor to refer me to someone else and he asked who I wanted to be referred to. I have no idea?????
He sent me to another GI doctor within the Kaiser system who said she agreed with my first doctor. So now what do I do?

Unless you have to stay in the Kaiser system I would look for a doctor that is not affiliated with them. This is what my cousin had to do when her husband was having major bowel problems and the doctors she was seeing (all in the same system) for for over a year could not come up with a solution. She finally did her own research and took him to see a doctor in another health system. He completely changed his treatment and it seems to be helping. Good luck. I hope you find a solution to your problem.

I* am sorry to hear about all your problems. With regard to the sphincter issue Pelvic Floor exercises are a help.My inner and outer sphincters are not good and a colorectal surgeon advised on a course of exercises with a Pelvic Floor phisio. They were a help.

Thank you. I am hoping to revisit physical therapy. Therapists I have seen in the past had mixed opinions on the value of therapy that my doctor ordered. It was difficult to navigate.
