Trouble falling asleep.

Posted by poppy97 @poppy97, 3 days ago

Hi everyone,
I’m 28 and have been dealing with insomnia for the past 2.5 weeks. I haven’t been able to sleep unless I take Xanax, which my psychiatrist prescribed along with Zoloft. My holidays have been ruined by this problem. I’m worried could this be a sign of a health problem? I really don’t want to become dependent on Xanax.
I’ve been taking between 0.59–0.75 mg of Xanax before bed. I also take magnesium glycinate, melatonin, and L-theanine. The first week I went completely sleepless for two nights straight. Now, with Xanax, I do get some sleep, but it’s very light and fragmented.
I’m feeling really anxious about this. I am scared this is something serious like fatal insomnia or something else. I’m not sure what to do next and would greatly appreciate any guidance or insight.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried walking a mile or more a day? For what it's worth, that helps me...

If you are ambulatory, and if it's safe to walk where you live (both socially/anti-socially and about footfall [ ice, snow, roots]), I agree that a couple of brisk walks helps tons. Even after supper, walking helps digestion if it doesn't stop it from being too strenuous. Avoiding digital services and devices after about 2100 hrs, and NEVER having a phone bedside....for any reason. Often this issues are temporary, and yes they can be annoying, worrying, and puzzling. They usually have an emotional or social component to them, often to do with someone significant, or it's financial, problems with the residence....something is needing attention.
