treatment of elevated triglycerides
Hello,
My husband is a little over 2 year post kidney transplant. He has elevated triglycerides mainly due to one of his transplant medication and having T2 diabetes. The kidney transplant nephrologist at Mayo Clinic Az recommends Zetia, but deferred to husband's endocrinologist to prescribe the medication, since one of the reasons for elevated triglycerides is diabetes. His local cardiologist however, would like for him to keep his triglycerides in range and to try Vascepa(super fish oil) , a newer and "better" drug than Zetia. Cardiologist does NOT know however if it's safe for post kidney transplant patient to use this drug. I have sent a message to husband's transplant team at Mayo Az to ask if OK to try Vascepa. Meantime, I'm just wondering if anyone in this group has tried Vascepa/Zetia and if this medication affected your transplant medication trough levels?
Mayo (at Az and Minn) are starting to charge up to $50 for messaging via patient portal. This would be a follow-up question to the 2 year checkup and I sure hope they don't charge me for it!!! I look forward to your response and TY in advance.
