Transdermal magnesium cream/lotion/ointment for peripheral neuropathy

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Apr 20 10:09am

I am researching the use of transdermal magnesium ointment for treatment of peripheral neuropathy pain. Has anyone had success with using this. There are several brands on the market but I don’t know which is the best form of magnesium , which is the most absorbable etc. P lease reply if you have experience of using this.

I used magnesium lotion on my feet for many months and it eased my pain for a long time. After a while it stopped working and there was no relief. I now take Alpha Lipoic Acid every day and this worked well for a long period, but now it is spasmodic.

I still have a magnesium lotion and it is 'Life-Flo ' Pure Magnesium Oil.

I use Rapha Blenda Moisturizing Magnesium oil (https://raphablends.com/collections/shop/products/dead-sea-moisturizing-spray) and it immediately helps with neuropathy pain...but only lasts a short time. Safe to apply as much as you need.

I have used both Life Flo Magnesium Lotion and Life Flo oil. I also have Epsom-it lotion. Got all of it from Amazon. Just started using Magnesium Glycinate capsules. Nothing is too expensive so it certainly worth a try. Honestly, I'm not sure if it really helps.. the oil seems to help when my toe (just one) spasms. That's really painful and I spray the oil on it and after a few minutes it seems to relax. I use a blob of dicofenac gel (voltaren) and a blob of lidocaine 4% lotion and slather it on my feet.
I honestly have a collection of various creams, lotions and supplements that people have suggested. and it keeps growing! ;>)

Have you tried Alpha Lipoic Acid capsules? These worked well for a long time and I still take them. My pain is easier to tolerate than it was.

Yes! R-ALA and aceytl-l-carnitine was one of the first supplements I used...and I still do. I take PEA. I've also started using boswellia and turmeric. I take naproxen for the pain..3 a day. I'm not going to take gabapentin or the other drugs most doctors recommend. The podiatrist said there was a compounded cream she could prescribe. She said it was expensive and I don't think insurance covers it. I might try that.

I tried Gabapentin and it made me swell. Not a pleasant experience.
