Total Knee Repair Revision: A Success Story

Posted by ezas123 @ezas123, Aug 4, 2022

Hi all I I am 1 week out of revision today . I must say this recovery has been so different from my first. I have so much more movement in my knee …. My leg goes straight….. my flexion work in progress but I was at .70 right out of surgery ….. I was there a year after tkr…..struggling of course with inflammation which I expected….I am icing and going to my therapist to help with edema…. I started pt this week also so you know how it goes take to where you can than push little more…..the pain really sucks going through this all over again I have not forgot the pain from last time … but the difference is I know I am seeing results already….even with the pain for right now I am so glad I did revision….. good luck to others going through and might be going through this .

Thank you all for the info … Joe thanks for always having great tips ….. but unfortunately the one I have been doing is straightening out and applying some pressure to a stretch …. So right now I am lucky I am getting any exercise in … Saturday first day I did not exercise in a very long time … I must say I felt off …. But it feels a little better i am still struggling with pain and stiffness but I am exercising through it…. Maybe needs few more days …. I am in new hurry to work on straightening again …thank you all …. Funny I finished pt last week she told me don’t get frustrated you may have set backs just get through it and see where things went off start again …..

Hi all I am still fighting through this set back ….. it’s been 3-4 weeks now ….I am continuing going to chiropractor I have been getting laser and cold therapy and graston technique….dr had me doing stretches no strengthening exercises…. I have lost some range of motion although I have not measured…..I incorporated a few exercises in just to have more pain ….even mfr that has helped me through so much is not giving me any relief in fact making it worse at times….I did reach out to my surgeons pa today let him know what was going on and if he had any suggestions…..he told me I was doing all the right things …. He just wants me to take it easy even more …. Wants me to elevate and ice stay off my feet ……which very difficult to do …..
Does anyone have pain in there tkr with the pressure changing or weather ? I am just continue doing what I can do and pray I don’t lose to much more range of motion …..

OH yeah!!! My TKR is better than any weatherman will ever be. Almost three years out and I have had to start wearing a compression knee sleeve again to help with the pain. It probably helps because it keeps it warmer, but not sure. I just know it helps me. Best of luck to you!

I was not sure about compression sleeve …… I have tried a few different times but had to take off I had to much pain …..possibly I was not long enough out of surgery….I will definitely try again…..I used copper fit before surgery it helped…crazy I did not think weather would affect me like this…thank you Happy Holidays

Still struggling through this setback…. I am little over 4 months out now ….. waiting one day for nsaids to get out of my system than tomorrow going to start some stronger dose steroids to hopefully get this capsulitis under control it is painful and very limiting…. My dr yesterday told me no exercise for next week and a half just light stretching and seated knee pull backs ….she did some graston and cold laser which helped with some of the pain and stiffness…,,I am going to continue with pool there are some light exercises I can do in water can not do on land right now……dr also suggested stay off my feet not totally just a little more …. Which I told her you have met my granddaughter she almost 4 and we stay very busy lol ….. I have to find balance even when I take steroids if works still can’t go crazy baking like I want to ……I guess I have been over doing it this is how I got here … but I felt good I went back to work continuing all the things I do with my grandkids after work going from 5 am till 8 pm on some days …. This is my bodies way of slowing me down ….. so now I can stop asking why it happened was doing to much to soon …. My work I will modify to fit what I can do they are great like that …at home adjust accordingly…..I know with few adjustments I will feel good again ….

Happy holidays all….well done with steroids I think took care of the capsulitis…..even felt great for two days lol ……I had a lot of tightness and pain in my knee It felt three sizes bigger but was not swollen if that makes sense…..I continued my stretching and went to pool yesterday today little better …..I do not like steroids that is why I was hesitant to take ….. they help but than they hurt my whole body….I have lost some range I have not measured but can tell … I have been thinking about this… I am going to stop pushing just be happy the range I have 110-115 is amazing last year 65-70 or less …..I think I am going to just set up my exercise program to maintain….I dealt with this capsulitis for weeks stoped my exercise routine, lost some range of motion…..I have been pushing myself for so long through this journey …. I think time stop trying to get more range just trying to keep what range I have gotten back …. So that is my plan …

Good plan ezas and a good attitude. I'm glad the inflammation is better. Dude a ROM of 110-115 is fine. The goal after TKR is usually 120 but at 110-115 I think you can do most anything as far as exercising (well, no impact stuff as you know).

After my two successful TKRs this year, I'm "protecting my investment" through weight training and stationary biking. I guess I got lucky cause I've been able to do everything my trainer has suggested. At 68 y/o, I'll take it. Not getting younger.......

All the best to you pal, and Merry Xmas. Joe

Ezas, I have to wear that sleeve material like they use under a cast. It's some type of cotton. I put that inside the compression sleeve with a couple of inches hanging out both ends. If I don't use that stuff I get some pain and really bad heat rash. I just ordered a big roll off of the web. Best of luck to you and Merry Christmas!

I am now 5 months out ….I scaled back some of my exercise routine …. I go to pool 2 week I just started doing steps in the pool again ….I am slowly starting different exercises … if it hurts too much I back off don’t want to swell up again…I also do mfr twice a week …. I am starting back up slow and steady…. So far first week pain is minimal mfr definitely helping with swelling and tightness…. I am icing after mfr and exercise….I so enjoyed the bike but that is one thing I have to stay away from for now…before I did everything I was asked to do from dr therapist… now I feel need adjust my workout to my life …. the past several weeks I was only told to stretch which makes sense to get capsulitis under control….now I want to keep it under control and that means listen to my body …. My team got me to 110-115 I lost a little … but with all I have learned I am confident I will get it back …I must say again I don’t like steroids I won’t do again …. Caused so much pain when they were done ….I am writing this to help me remember where I was and where I want to be…. When I decided to get revision my goal was get to 80 well I exceeded that goal… my new goal is get to 110-115 and maintain it comfortably….
