TKR 01/12/26

Keeping spirits up and patience is for the gifted. I think with TKR you have good days and not so much good days. Ai says I’m on target, doing well, sending me little hearts. But today in PT one of my therapists said “you must have a low pain tolerance.” Because I still can’t bend to 100-120 I’m at 90. I sit, walk w/o cane, get in/out of car, starting to climb stairs slowly etc. The challenge is with swelling which contributes to not bringing my leg back. It’s so painful and actually a vicious circle. I’m off hard pain pills. They make me nauseous so just Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I’m a little in awe, this therapist would say “you have a low pain tolerance” when I just walked out of surgery almost 4 weeks ago, anyway I guess I did..don’t remember too much, Lol 🙂

Per”l my PT and “low pain tolerance.” I’m grateful yesterday (Feb 8) a breakthrough, I came around full circle on my recumbent bike. Yea! I did have to push it but not through pain like my PT’s theory. I sort of manipulated/massaged my knee to bend through the stiffness to come around on my bike. Wasn’t painful just stiff, I’d did it. Have to admit, it took a little courage - Lol
I wish you all ❤️‍🩹 healing and pray for all of us, our best life back again. “I hope you Dance”

@annanana, Congrats on getting to a full rotation on the bike! I still remember the first time I was able to do that, it really did feel like a break through! I remember the super tight feeling, like you might tear something, but then pedaling back and forth a few more times til you give it one more little push, and around you go! Recovery went fast after that.

You are doing phenomenal! Your PT is out of line and should never say something like that. It's very discouraging. I am 18 months post-TKR and still have pain issues. That you are only taking Tylenol and no pain medications is a testament to your pain tolerance. Keep on a regular schedule with your ice, as that truly is the best thing for swelling. Onward and upward.

@nw2999 I agree… it will be a year on 4/3 for my left.. and coming up on 7 months on my right. I can’t get to 120 on either. Couldn’t before TKR either. And doctor told me since I couldn’t before.. it would be harder to get there after. Not sure there will ever be ‘no pain’ at all. To say you have a low pain tolerance because you can’t bend to the 100-120 range yet.. that’s not professional, is unnecessary, discouraging to say. “Anyone”who has a TKR.. has to have a HIGH Tolerance for pain.. and Huge amount of Patience. I think you are doing good. Keep working at it.

@annanana Well, you are approaching 5 weeks since surgery, so I just wanted to check on how you are doing.
I am disappointed that your PT made the remark about "low pain tolerance" - it seems unprofessional to me, and I would be looking for a new provider.
But I saw that you are able to pedal now, so that's a great sign of progress. How is the day to day pain doing?

Today marks 5 weeks. I made peace by the timely remark. I think PT’s prob become a little immuned to patients pain. Not sure. Anyway, I’ve moved on and better each day, I am doing my exercises at home plus PT. Thank you for your support🌷
