Tinnitis

Does anyone have ringing in the ears? At times mine is so loud I can't think I don't know of any solutions,if you do I,d appreciate hearing from you.

I have had tinnitis for over 60 years. There are at least 3 different high frequency sounds going on 24/7. My only recourse is to have the TV or radio playing which drowns them out. Thankfully, I have been able to deal with it. I discovered the sounds are much louder when the barometric pressure gets high. I had hoped there would be a cure in my life time, but doesn't look like it. My hearing Dr. tells me if someone ever came up with a cure they would be instant millionaires.

SIXTY YEARS is a long time to suffer with this. Mine was on and off for years and then abut 4 yrs ago after over 120 vancomycin for c.diff became worse, at least that's is only cause I can think off; although used to have mri's with no haring protection. Oddly enough I have moderate hearing loss; yet also have Hyperacusis where I can hear sounds like running water seem like a waterfall. Along with eustachian tube pain and at 79 2 yrs ago ent said doesnt want to put tubes in esp. Seniors as fifty per cent get infections. Have our heating system with running fans in basement under my bedroom and they run on and off through the night too... sometimes its my tinnitus and sometimes it is the furnace, but now tired of trotting down to basement to find out! A little dash of tmj thrown in to add pain and since June last year frequent boiling hot face! Not trying to claim reward for most head issues ... but ocular migraines too since a child. IBS-D, fecal incontinence, hypothyroid.... all non life-threatening but visions of spending my "old age" in a rocking chair knitting socks and watching tv is just a dream now! May have some type of Rosascia, young Dr. didn't know... referred me back to referring Nurse Practitioner and she is taking no further action - and they wonder why I am depressed! Yes anyone who finds a cure for tinnitus at least would not only be a millionaire but make millions of people very very happy... take care, best of luck, J.

....totally agree with you in that "why this song or why this music or why humming" ... this cannot be a new phenomenon so has it been researched by scientists or ? I suppose not enough people have it or say they have it so compared to life threatening illnesses it is down the list.... I too am wondering about any connection between it being something not to worry about as relates to hearing loss, have been told, and it's similarity with people who hear voices telling them to do things, kind of scary but so far it's "only" been music or close to chanting and I cannot figure out the words. However, along with a laundry list of other issues I have it is for me "another worry." J.

I like to believe that we needn’t worry about musical tinnitus. Other forms apparently keep people awake and are daily difficulties. My music is just quietly in the background and pleasant. I am amazed that it is my own brain choosing the songs and the type of music— male or female choir or mixed chorus or instrumental. When instrumental, I don’t recognize what instrument is playing. It’s not an instrument I know, but definitely not voices. Today I was surprised to be able to hear the actual words of a song. That is rare.
I hope you aren’t worrying about this. I too have many other diagnoses and life experiences that require a bit of worry, but musical tinnitus just makes me curious, not worried, about the cause and how the brain functions to produce the selections. I have no control over what songs I hear — Lately patriotic songs but most often hymns and occasionally beautiful old Negro spirituals.

I am late deafened profound due to a TBI and a long term coma. (29 mo.)
When I awoke I had become deaf "profound".
I have since got a right side cochlear implant but
I have non-stop tinnitus.
Can anything be done to stop the tinnitus?

Yes mine started this year!
Mine can be very loud also
Purchased hearing aids , Rexton brand at Cosco ,much better. Brings the volume way down, some also have a tinitus setting, as mine do
Also purchasing Bio flavonoids , recommended byNIH
Tinitus is awful!
They are working on some solutions
Hope they hurry!

Which may help!

Another thought…. Botox injections in the massiter muscle relaxes the clenching which reduces the inflammation of the nerve..

Sorry to say, no. There are scams out there saying they have the solution, but it is just a scam. I asked my brother inlaw, who is losing his hearing, if he still had the tinitis and he said yes. He said even if he lost all hearing, the tinitis will still be there. I have read that it is caused from the brain, not the ears. I have had tinitis over 60 yrs. Somehow, I have good hearing. I hear things my husband doesn't. Yet there are high frequency sounds going on constantly. At least 4. Having the TV on or the radio seems to hide it. Trying to sleep when all is quiet is a challenge. My Dr. prescribed sleeping pills which I only take if I am still awake after 30 minutes. Having the sleeping pills is a big relief. However, I don't want to get addicted to them. Good luck.

I have that, for decades too( loud music as a teen, then brain injury) I find that it's loudest when my ears are clogged, I learned to ignore it as much as possible, except when really loud it's like a whistle
