Thyroid Nodules

Posted by kfxston @kfxston, Jul 20, 2023

Just two days ago I was told I have a lot of nodules on my thyroid gland. I also have Panhypopituitarism but I’m not sure that relates to the thyroid issue. I believe I’m supposed to be getting the nodules biopsied. I’m pretty nervous about that - should I be?

Yes they did a tiny injection of lidocaine so all I felt was pressure no pain. Much better than I anticipated.

Me too !
I was terrified. No big deal.
Waiting on biopsy is worse.

Thyroid nodules are common! For about 20% of population. I think. One of mine blew up with blood and had to be aspirated. I have them scanned every couple of years and while some grow a little there is nothing alarming. Even if there's a biopsy you still may be just fine. Thyroid stuff is some of the most treatable so make sure you've got a good doctor and then go from there. Glad you're tending to it. Good luck and try not to worry too much. 💜

Hi. Thanks for the info.
I’m awaiting result of my genetic study of the node.
If a certain type it is pre cancerous and will require surgery.
Fingers and toes crossed.
So glad you had a good outcome.

Thyroid stuff runs in my family. My mother and I both had hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease. Over time her’s morphed to hypothyroidism. My endocrinologist treated my Graves Disease (currently normal) but is monitoring in case I also morph to hypothyroidism. My husband had a type of thyroid cancer. Had the whole thing removed and is now on Synthroid / Levothyroxine. Our daughter had thyroglossal duct cysts that had to be removed. She has since been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and is also on Synthroid / Levothyroxine. All this stuff is treatable and manageable with a good endocrinologist. Our endocrinologist did my husband’s biopsies when something suspicious showed on a chest X-ray of all things! (He had pneumonia but a bad image was also detected in his neck.) The biopsy was needle aspirations in his neck, then surgery (thyroidectomy) almost 17 years ago. He is cancer free and has been returned to the care and keeping of our primary physician.
