Three attempts to get a biopsy and still not able to.
Yesterday was the third attempt to get a biopsy. The first was in the gynecologist’s office- I had asked to have it under GA in the hospital. The second was a month ago, a MyoSure hysteroscopy dilation and curettage under GA in the hospital by my gynecologist. The third was today and was a hysteroscopy dilation and curettage performed by my oncologist. The results were all basically the same: the cervix is too narrow and there is scarring, which prevents them from getting into the uterus for a biopsy. Feeling disappointed.
My oncologist set up a virtual appointment for September 23, 11 days from now. It has almost been two years of waiting to find out what’s going on. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? What was the procedure that finally produced a biopsy?

@bocabuckeye This is all so very frustrating. I haven't experienced this but if I did I'd be insisting that there MUST be another way to view the uterus and get a biopsy. September 23 is less than two weeks away so with that time frame I'm hoping that your oncologist does their own research and comes up with some good options.
I'm going to do some research here on Mayo Clinic Connect to see if I can figure out whether another of our members had a similar experience as yours and if so what procedure was used.
Thank you!!! I’m exhausted today, possibly from the procedure and worrying??
@bocabuckeye Yes!! I would be exhausted from what you went through yesterday too. Do you have the opportunity to rest today?
Yes, I’ve been napping off and on. Naps are wonderful!
Not sure if this would work in your case. I had a CT guided needle biopsy to verify a recurrence. I was diagnosed with concurrent endometrial and ovarian cancer. My oncologist wanted to verify if the endometrial or ovarian came back. I already had a full hysterectomy. They had to go deep into my pelvic area with a long needle. They did not have to go through the vagina. I was numbed first and fully awake. They were able to get the biopsy.
It seems crazy to me that your situation has dragged on this long. If the gyn oncologist couldn't do a D&C, the biopsy probably isn't ever going to happen. If I were you I would urgently request imaging (CT scans tend to be much easier to get than MRIs). Depending on what that shows, how bad you feel, and how convinced you are that your problems are gynecological, I'd then try to convince them to go ahead and do a hysterectomy, biopsy or no biopsy. Robotic laparoscopic hysterectomies are great.
Thank you for sharing your experience, it helps so much to have any input at this juncture of my search for answers. And, having a community of experienced women who have walked in my shoes feels comforting.
It seems crazy to me too. The symptoms that lead me to believe that it is a gynecological issue are postmenopausal bleeding at 75 yo, a thickened endometrium, bloating, fatigue, pelvic pain, and unusual vaginal smells. Maybe nothing… maybe something. Thank you for your advice, I’ll share this with my oncologist during the appointment.
@lv67 Thank you for sharing your experience. I wondered about a needle biopsy that could be conducted via ultrasound or CT and now you have shared just that. There are options these days that are non-invasive. Thanks to @val64 for your perspective. @bocabuckeye Please let us know what your oncologist says when you share these experiences?
