@snowdrop71 Hello and welcome to Connect. I can understand what a shock this kind of news is. There will be a lot of information thrown at you in a short period of time and it can be overwhelming. Having experienced head and neck cancer, treatments, and long term side effects, I can agree that it is a battle no one wants to participate in. But there are success stories and long term survivors and when it comes down to the point of choosing prolonged life vs giving up, most of us choose life. My best recommendation at this point is to be comfortable with your medical team and sometimes that means asking for a referral to a large cancer center or referral center which specializes in this type of cancer. I sought out care at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN and I believe that is why I am alive today. We drive 10 hours for this excellent medical care and it is worth every minute. Do you have a large referral center nearby to request a second opinion? Be strong and advocate for your husband's care. You will find a lot of support here on Connect.

Decades ago I read Carlos Castaneda, The Teachings of Don Juan and still remember the simple philosophy of Don Juan, expressed as the difference between a warrior and an ordinary man. The warrior sees everything as a challenge, while the ordinary man sees everything as either a blessing or a course. After all this time, I can say, it's easier said than done, Juan.

Praying for you. When the ENT looked at my wife and said, don't wait for a biopsy, your hubby has throat cancer. See this surgeon immediately. 10 days later I had a trach, followed by radiation & chemo. Karmanos Cancer is a designated cancer care facility in Michigan. I'm alive, talking & have a good prognosis. It was tough. You can do it. I would not be alive if not for my wife & Karmanos
