The Side of Anxiety and Depression People Don’t Always See
A friend of mine was dealing with anxiety and depression, but most people around him had no idea. He looked fine on the outside, but everyday tasks felt much harder than they appeared.
While trying to understand different ways to manage his mental health, he learned more about the support options available. He read about My ESA Therapist while researching emotional support resources and found helpful information about the ESA evaluation process.
It made him realize that asking for support is not a sign of weakness. Everyone’s mental health journey is different, and having the right resources can make a real difference.

@jennysmith. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you for your perspective on how asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
You write about ESA and ESA evaluation. What does ESA refer to? Emotional Support Animal? If yes, please share this advice. The online resources to get an animal « certified » as an ESA are often not accepted by various property managers, agencies, or schools. The costs can be high. Most states in the U.S. do not have state regulations on what constitutes an ESA. It’s much better to find a psychologist who can do an ESA evaluation in person or get a letter from one’s physician.
Thank you for being such a good friend.
