Does non-invasive bladder cancer (NIBC) often recur?

I had one recurrence of non-invasive bladder cancer within three months of a clean cystoscopy. Could anyone tell me how often this type of cancer returns?

@dianeoh26, I'm sorry to read about your recurrence of non-invasive bladder cancer (NIBC) only 3 months after a clean cystoscopy. You asked "how often this type of cancer returns?" Some stages of bladder cancer, and those considered high-grade cancers, are more likely to recur. Careful follow-up is needed to monitor for recurrence.

You might find the information in this article from the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center to be helpful.

@dianeoh26, do you know the stage and grade of your cancer? What treatment has been recommended for the recurrence?

@colleenyoung thank you fir your response. I was diagnosed with low grade NIBC. I was treated with Gemzar once a week for 6 weeks. After a short break, I began a monthly course of Gemzar for one year, with screenings every 3 months
