Familiar with gabapentin, aka Neurontin, for seizures?
Has anyone here heard of or used the medication Gabapentin, also known as Neurontin? I have been on numerous seizure medications, yet have never heard of this one. A lady in another Epilepsy chatroom mentioned this medication and what a wonderful neurological impact it had had on her life. Any knowledge of this medication? If so, positive or negative?

I was prescribed neurontin some years ago. I had to quite taking it because of side effects. It made me feel very disoriented and lightheaded. My mom was on it and she was having some hallucinations and exhibited some strange behavior. She was moving her hands and arms like she was doing her hand sewing, which she was not, and she wasn’t aware of that movement. She was just getting goofier and goofier.
All meds have side effects and I believe a person shouldn’t dismiss them because of other people’s comments. It might work for you with no side effects. You never know. Wishing you the best.
couple months ago had a fracture of myankle ,also had neuropathy of my foot.Foot doctor had me take gabepentin to cut down on pain,a!ready take keppre and vimpat for my grand mals.doctor toldme gabapentin helps with pain onfoot but will not make much difference on my epilepsy.
Thanks for filling me in on your story with the medication. If you don't mind me asking, what type of Epilepsy do you have? Is it used for the treatment of a specific type or just Epilepsy in general? I wish you the best.
Ouch! I am currently taking Vimpat and Keppra too. I would like to rid of the Keppra and try something new. Did he indicate a reason he felt it would not help with your Epilepsy? Because of the type you have? I appreciate your insight!
Kristin, oi was a little surprised when doctor added gabepentin,3oo mgs per day for my neuropatny since i take somuch meds for my grandmals..Some meds for epilepsy have different results according to the type of epilepsy.
kristin, ive had grand mals since i was six, been through a lot ofmeds through the years,im 63 now, been on keppra and vimpt since october ..Told by two doctors that gaberpentin wouldnt make much difference withmy grand mal medicine..made me wonderhow good it is..it made me woozy and sleepy at first..one time woke up dint know where i was heard voices justlike agrand mal except lasted only couple minutes.didnt have any more.did help my foot pain.
I took 3600mg a day but it had no effect on me. Meds are so individulized (sp) will work at low dose for one and have no effect on another even at a high dose. Have you had E long? What type of seizures ? How often?
Yeah I've taken both forms. Unfortunately my body rejected it & I felt like I was going to die because of the pain it caused in my head, that was beyond excruciating until I was tapered off & it was finally out of my system. However my brother swears by it for his head injuries from a horrific motorcycle-car accident last September. His face & head is still shattered & needs gab to deal with the neurological issues plus brain effects. I guess it's a don't know till you try it as with most meds.
THis medication has a long history of side effects and really isn't one of the better ones. However everyone's body is different and the only way to know if it will work is to try it. They use this medication along with Pregabalin( Lyrica) more for Neuropathic pain than seizures these days.
Went to doc today and she wants me back on Neutontin for pain. My pain is horrible since I went off fentanyl. The Neurontin didn’t help before so I don’t expect it to help now. However it might help in controlling my seizures.
