Tests to be done for constipation?

Posted by electracat @electracat, Nov 11 12:53pm

Hi everyone,

I had a gyno doc feel for a rectocele (she did not feel one), and I've had gut-mapping and bloodwork done, and a colonoscopy.

Is motility testing necessary (or ano-rectal stuff), or would it just lead to same treatments if suspected (but not tested for)?

Just want to make sure i cover my bases.

Often my stool feels so stuck in rectum (but it's not hard, just can't get through) and i don't know why. But nobody has seen anything of note. Only the idea that things have slowed and lots of water, etc is necessary! Just want to ensure that feeling it in rectum is...normal, for constipation? Thanks!!!

Maybe you are intolerant to some foods? I have digestive problems since high school. After I remove gluten from my diet, all problems are gone.

I just read a post here a few days ago touting the benefits of the "Squatty Potty". It seems to be just a footstool about seven inches high that supposedly lifts your knees up enough to give a straighter path for stools to pass out of the bowel. It's on Amazon and seems to get decent reviews. Will it work for you? Is it worth checking out? Maybe.
Have a blessed day!

@heisenberg34 I use one! Has helped immensely. I bought a collapsible one so it can be stored away easily. I’ve often thought to see if it fits in a suitcase to take it with me. That’s how much I like it.

@midford Wonderful! I’m thinking of making my own. I’m hoping it makes “the go” a little easier.
Thanks for your post.

Hello,I have that same feeling,I have a motility disorder comprising of reflux, gastroparesis and chronic constipation..my motility specialist ordered anorectal manometry to determine function of the rectum and MRI defecography to evaluate the structure of the rectum,I was also diagnosed with dysnergic defecation(rectal muscles not coordinating),I also have rectocele. My dr.ordered biofeedback and pelvic therapy sessions with PT and meds to control reflux, help digestion and regulate constipation,I think treatment is based on your individual response.Hope this helps

Hi! Thank you for sharing. Did your p/t do any exams (internally, etc), or did you have to have the anorectal manometry etc beforehand? Do you feel the p/t is helping? And--who diagnosed the rectocele? I had a gyno visit and she told me i don't have that.

And, what meds are helping you?

Thanks!
