Tessalon pearls to suppress cough before and after surgery.

Posted by lenorj @lenorj, 3 days ago

I am having cataract surgery and my surgeon has advised that I suppress my cough during and for several days after the surgery. Has anyone had experience with this? Will my cough be worse after several days of this medication? I will not be able to nebulize or do airway clearing for about a week.

When I had cataract surgery (one eye) I was concerned about coughing also. I cleared my lungs beforehand. Still I still coughed when I lied down. Frustrating. I don't think I took a tessalon perle so that's a good idea. They gave me some anesthesia, which rather knocked me out, and I never got any feedback that my coughing was an issue. You might wish to do a dry run with the tessalon perle and lying down. Maybe there's something else that can be prescribed?

As for after the surgery, my surgeon said airway clearance was fine but I was careful to be as gentle as possible. I made sure I was hydrated as possible and stayed away from crazy positions. Even with twice a day with clearance (gentle) my eye healed well. There are more threads on this topic on this forum. Do you know how to search?

Completely unrelated to the cataract surgery, I recently discovered in my own allergic self that an allegra allergy tablet diminishes my mucus production considerably.
