Tapering off of 6mg per day Xanax prescribed

Met with my physiatrist via FT for the last time. He is retiring. We talked about tapering off my Xanax. He was not that clear. Need some advice. Thanks.

I would highly recommend the Ashton Manual, it’s free online and has consistently proven to be the best method to help you, best wishes.

Do you and your physiatrist meet on Face Time then? Is reception adequate? What is the diagnosis? GAD? Panic? How much Xanax did the physiatrist start you off on? How long have you been seeing him? It seems a rather in opportune time that your taper would coincide with his departure. “Retiring” probably precludes further Face Time.
Did your conversations with the provider reveal any causes for the need for Xanax? If so, were strategies considered to help living without the benzo? Keep in touch & good luck.

Are currently stable and feeling well on your current dose? If so that is a good first step.

As far as tapering , a lot of times doctors recommend tapers at a fairly quick pace. There are various Benzo tapering communities that recommend 5-10% dosage cuts and then waiting a couple weeks to see how your body reacts. If you start feeling uncomfortable withdraw symptoms, their recommendation would be to hold this cut until some stabilization before the next cut. You may find that you can go faster, but it is recommended to start slowly to see how you progress through the taper. You will want to work with your Doctor to make sure you will have access for a script of Xanax to cover you for the taper based on your timing and schedule.

Hey, Bobby. I am so glad to know you’re still with us! We love you, Guy! I don’t think I’m the only one out here who choked a bit, seeing that daily you’re even on SIX mg of Zannies! I mean down here in Texas we’ll put down a diseased steer with FIVE Z’s. Ya’ see them Totem poles can take you by surprise. Like your physiatrist fella. I’m just saying I wonder if “He’s Retiring” or “BEING RETIRED”? Twice now you’ve said that Dr. X isn’t very clear. Clearly he isn’t. Have you noticed an X-Patch on his arm? All kidding aside, I think we all would like to see you taper down for safety sake and to let me and the others not have to cut back.

Hi all, yes, Dr did retire, leaving to get off xanax. Again, I have been on for 30 years. The therapist is going to another practice, and following him and whatever shrink he puts me with, that is good. Trouble is no one prescibes xanax any more. And the worst part is that I am getting off it, as I need to get on Xywav for hypersomnia. I fall asleep all the time at work, etc., on paid STD now for all this crap. Methamphetamine times do nothing for it. so screwed. Down from 6mg to 2mg starting tonight. So far, so good, but I bet this reduction is going to kick me. Prayers Please
