Tapering off mirtazapine

Hello, I’ve been on mirtazapine since March 2025. I was on 15mg, but as of last night I am on 7.5mg. I want to completely taper off. How long should I stay on 7.5mg by experience before stopping completely? Like I mentioned, I haven’t been on it long. Thanks!

@marz560 Part of the hangover is because of the low dose. With mirtazipine the lower the dose the more the sleep effect. It works backwards from other medications for sleep issues. I would get a doctor’s opinion.

I am on my second week of coming off mirtazapine. It is true the lower the dose the more drowsy it makes you feel. I was on 15 mgs. for 3 months. I’m now on 7.5 mgs. for 1 week. I will stay at 7.5 for 1 more week then stop. It was added on to my Clomipramine for sleep. It did help. I have gained weight. It makes me so hungry 😋

@visionsofelvis I am still on the 15mg. I started at 7.5mg for a few weeks then went to 15mg about 2 months ago. It took me 5 or 6 weeks to get over the tiredness but am okay now. But my appetite is going crazy. I don’t like that.

@joetex I was on 15 mg for 3 months then 7.5 for 7 weeks then cut that in half to 3.75. Was on 3.75 for 4 weeks and 2 days. Now off it for 5 days. When coming off Mirt, there. Are certain withdrawals like, anxiety, sleep disruptions, tension on temples. However, I’ve been hearing that 1-2 weeks for Mirt to be out of your system

@visionsofelvis That’s interesting. I don’t know when I will be coming off. I’m on it for depression after my wife died. My doctor and I will discuss it in 2 months.
