Tamoxifen and blood pressure medication

Posted by gran71 @gran71, 1 day ago

Are there any blood pressure medications that won’t interact with tamoxifen. My NP has prescribed at least 3 different blood pressure meds and I researched and found that all have the tendency to negate the benefits of tamoxifen. Help please!

Hello @gran71 I certainly think this is worth a conversation with your oncologist. They are usually right on top of things like this. I had one choose a different medicine for me because of my antidepressant. I tried a different antidepressant for a year and was not really well. After a year I explained that if I was going to be that miserable, I might as well get the cancer back, and I just couldn’t do it anymore. Saying I was going back on my regular antidepressants and she would need to decide if there was something she could do about the cancer.
Turns out there about a half dozen other drug choices for the cancer that would have been acceptable all along. Talk to the doctor and explain how you must have your BP meds so maybe they have an acceptable option for you.
It might mean a different BP meds or a different cancer med, try to keep in mind there are many combinations that might work.
Have you finished any other treatments?

I am in year 4 of tamoxifen with 6 more years to go. I can’t take the AI’s because of osteopenia. I didn’t need chemo and I had a new cancer surgery called IORT which required only one large dose of radiation, basically a one and done.
