Has anyone experienced heavy legs and being off balance after stopping a statin?

@lynnelliott7 So very sorry to hear about your experience. May I ask if those side effects have stayed with you? While researching I found a number of people 'kept' their side effects after going off of the medication—horrible! I have balance problems to begin with, I can't imagine. My PCP also prescribed them but never take anything without research, I've learned the hard way how important it is. Hoping things are better for you.

My primary care provider had me go off statins after I developed severe thigh pain. I've now been off atorvastatin for eleven days, and the thigh pain is still there. Actually I think it's even worse than it's been beforehand. So I just wrote to my pcp on his patient portal to ask him what I should do. The pain is often excruciating. He had prescribed Ultram/Tramadol for the pain, but it doesn't help at all. I'm taking extra-strength Tylenol when the pain becomes unbearable, but no more than four tabs (500 mg each) per day.

I actually asked about Praluent.....but since going back on it after my knee replacement I think it has made muscle pain worse. Feet tingling, hip and thigh pain, some weakness in leg etc... so I went off. I'm about 6 weeks out and it can stay in your system 100 days. Not sure about atorvastatin. I have a cardiology appt. the 16th of next months and have not told them I stopped it (just my pcp). I can't take oral statins either so no clue what they may do to keep my cholesterol down. Zetia made? Not sure but I'm scared to take statins.

@hazelblumberg have you considered another source for your thigh pain? The IT band runs down the side of our legs too and I often get thigh pain but not statin related. I’ve been on simvastatin for over 10 years and never had an issue. I’ve also got a terrible back with multiple issues which causes most of my aches.
