Symptoms after a Transcarotid Artery Revascularization. Any thoughts?

Posted by hahnco @hahnco, May 25, 2023

After the TCAR, I began to experience memory loss while speaking. I can not remember even common words which causes me to delay my thoughts and stop speaking. Have discussed with my cardiologist and vascular surgeon. They suspect a stroke or maybe a bleed in my brain ? I’m scheduled for an MRI to give us answers.

I had T car procedure on left carotid artery, with incision in right groin. On first day home my right calf is aching with no visible reason why. Is that normal?

@cheriko Welcome to Connect. I’m glad you reached out.

New calf pain so soon after your TCAR procedure is something I’d encourage you to report to your surgical team right away, even without visible swelling or redness.

Have you been able to contact your surgeon about the pain?

It seems to have resolved itself. Thanks for the response. I well see my PCP in 3 days and will discuss it then. For now I think its ok. Am trying to walk around more.

Whew, @cheriko
This is wonderful news. I am glad to hear you are doing better and calf has improved. Did you do anything that may have helped?

Please, please come back and provide an update after you see your PCP.

Don't know why it went away, but I just took short walks around the house, waggled my feet back and forth when I was lying down fairly often, and when I would wake up during the night. Just tried to keep good circulation going. When you go thru a surgery like this, you get anxious about every little symptom that pops up. Thanks for your kindness in replying.

Pills and sometimes food I eat to push them down, get stuck in my esophagus and I have a lump in there for hours. I sit up and drink water which I can feel trickling down bit by bit, but the pill stays . It takes hours for the feeling to go away. I'm afraid to lie down, and sit up till I'm exhausted. I meet with surgeon in 2 days but he doesn't really respond much. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice?

@cheriko - I wanted to let you know that I moved your post to a discussion on a similar topic where you'd posted before, so you could continue talking with them:
