swollen ankles

Posted by elizamail @elizamail, Aug 29, 2016

Has anyone found a cure for swollen ankles. My ankles used to swell up only in the summer time, but now they swell up all seasons. My doctor doesn't have any answers, as he has tested my kidneys and liver functions and he said that all was normal. A naturopath told me that I have thick blood, but still no answers to the swelling. I cannot take fluid tablets because I have low thyroid. Are there any solutions?

Hello @elizmail
I can't imagine what it would be like to deal with that all the time. Here is a great link to help. http://www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/leg-swelling/basics/causes/sym-20050910

Curious how has your blood pressure been? Sometimes they are related.

Diet makes a difference. How is your sodium intake?

Thank you very much for your quick response DAWN and link. My blood pressure is normal and I cut down on salt many years ago. I will go now and look at the link you sent.

I too have this issue and have for many years. I am 72 yrs in good health. My experience has been if my weight goes up swelling appears, if I keep my weight in check not so much. Ankles swollen at night, face in the morning upon waking. Salt intake
guarded for many years. Sugar intake slight. I use Stevia.

I have only 1 swollen ankle which could have been brought on by a BP medication but my doctor is sending me to have an Echocardiogram with Doppler test as well as an Ankle Brachial Pressure test.

I also cut down on sugar many years ago and do not use any artificial sweeteners. What is a Doppler test? Is there any tests/solution for thick blood. My problem could be from bad circulation, and I thought after I had my back operation, (which I had a bad lower back for many years (nerves pinching) my ankles might improve - but they haven't.

There are not enough doctors who know about natural healing and we can't get medical cover for nutritionists. The Pharmaceutical Companies do all the recommendations for the doctors and the doctors have to follow them because they can be sued by the patient if they don't and something goes wrong. But the Pharmaceutical companies recommend drugs that have not been completely researched. I have been nearly killed three time by Specialists giving me drugs that I have been allergic to and then the nurses/doctors don't believe that there is anything wrong. Many doctor have also misdiagnosed me. But why can't we sue the Pharmaceutical Companies. I think it is about time we could. Many doctors haven't got a clue on how stress affects the body. I asked 2 doctors had they ever heard of Adrenal fatigue, (caused by stress)which I had been diagnosed with (and treated) by a Nutritionist. The doctors had never heard of it. I have found that doctors are a waste of time going to, but we don't have a choice. We have to do to them to be referred to specialists, who still can't help.

Well, here I am could not take ppi's, dr. Recommended everyone on the market.i had constant mucous, stomach upset, resistant h pylori, stomach inflammation, chronic gastritis. I finally started taking alternative meds, you have to take them for awhile, I have no problem. I watch what I eat, I lost weight, I take the alternatives every day I feel great.I am 75 they wanted to give me a hip replacement I could not believe after taking pain meds I thought I would try glucosamine. Boy! Does that work for me! I haven't taken anything for pain in weeks. I am very active I work in my yard,I climb my hill, I walk my dog everyday, I take care of my husband and granddaughter, sometimes I don't get to sit and relax for hours. There is something to be said for trying alternatives. I buy my on line

Hello Lorainne,

Would you please let me know what you take rather than PPI's. I had the same situation and finally stopped taking them after 3 years of being miserable. I do have Gerd and Barrett's Esophagus so PPI's were to keep acid neutralized is what Dr explained to me. I now take Apple Cider Vinegar daily and it keeps Gerd under control, but maybe damaging esophagus. I don't know. I would rather have a better quality of life rather than longevity not feeling well every day. Nice to meet you.

I take two mastic gum in the morning, deglycyrrhizinated licorice, before I eat, D limonene after a meal. Sometimes I take slippery elm. I buy all of these from Puritan they have the lowest prices. Sometimes I take digestabs. These meds are less money than prescriptions. But I also watch my diet no acidic foods,or fatty foods, I actually lost weight eating healthy,I have treats now and then. Good Luck
