Swallowing difficulties
I have SFN and was recently diagnosed with a swallowing disorder called Oropharyngeal Dysphagia which weakens the throat muscles and makes it difficult to swallow. One of the risk factors for this condition is neurological or nervous system disorders. So my question is, can this swallowing condition be one of the effects of Neuropathy? Also I have always suspected my many years of Statin drugs has caused me to have neuropathy and since Statins are a known cause of muscle problems, I suspect my throat muscles are the latest victims of Statins. (I no longer take Statins.)

I have trouble swallowing that comes and goes
I have that as well, for many years. There is a ring that forms in the esophagus that needs to be dilated every couple of years. I have an endoscopy and they use a “balloon” to open it.
Neuropathy can definitely cause difficulties and swallowing
i also have that on and off. a few weeks ago, i got a little scare, because it seemed to feel like something was in the bottom of my throat, and wouldn't go away for a day and 1/2. Fortunately i know I Narutopath Medical dr., who also uses acupuncuture. She wanted to do an IV, but i told her i think my throat just needs a little...nudge.. and could she try acupuncture. I was a little nervous about have a few needles in my throat, but, i didn't feel a thing. I sat there for 20 minutes, when she took the needles out, i felt great. went across the street and ordered a nice meal. So far, my throat is still fine. she wanted to do a few sessions, but i only went in for a second one, just in case. the rest i will only do as needed. If you try acupuncture tho, i would trust an actual naturopath Dr., instead of someone who only studied accupuncture. But, that is just me.........Many years ago, a Dr., said to drink a couple of tablespoons of real lemon juice, as it opens up the passageway. that did work for me once.........but not this last time.
My son was on statins, they also gave him weak muscles. Dr had to finally take him off that, I will never take statins.......too many side effects. the dr., who did accupuncture did say the treatment could help strengthen the muscles. I'm not sure about that, or how it would work. But, at least it has helped so far. i'm 82, and have kept myself off drugs so far, going to natural and alternative methods. i know the day will come where i will need something more. when my friends/co workers spent a lot of times reading novels, book after book.........i spent my time reading alternative treatments, book after book. and finding alternative Drs. some Naturopaths, i didn't like, but i kept searching until i found one that was a good fit, and she even went to Germany to study some of their alternative treatments. Insurance usually does not cover them. altho, once is a while you will find one who takes insurance. Maybe you could find a couple of them who ...maybe....might giver a free consultation....probably not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.............and it might take a while to find one that makes sense to you, i had to talk to several, before i found one that made sense.............but i kept her for over 20 yrs. plus with my non stop reading, and researching for self...........i've kept drug free for quite a while. I don't know if that is an avenue for you. But at my age, i think it all worked well for me. And if you don't feel comfortable with one, maybe keep searching. Just like MD's, they too, are not always right.
