Surgery with a cold?
I will have a lengthy 2-3, or 3-4 hours abdominal surgery, mass removal, hysterectomy and more. I developed a cough 2 days ago, started
with a sore throat. No covid. No fever. I understand the anesthesiologist will make a
recommendation. Should I follow his advice if he says it's ok to have the surgery, even
with me coughing every 15 minutes.

I would not because of the abdominal pressure from coughing. It doesn’t make sense to have a patient coughing under anesthesia while operating on them, but also after would be painful. NO for me. Not OK.
Personal opinion for myself, no! I've always been asked for a surgery if I have cold, cough, etc
I would not want a surgery with those symptoms.
Thank you, I postponed it, my cough is going on for the 4th day, no one asked if I have a cold or cough. I let the surgeon know when
I showed symptoms. The new date is in 2 weeks
Charlotte,
That's great you let the surgeon know. Surgery in 2 weeks, best wishes!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, Charlotte. Let us know how you are doing.
i still have a cold, i still cough several times within the hour, my surgery is scheduled in 2 days, the surgeon suggests i should have the
surgery because if i have cancer it could spread, but tells me it is my decision, will waiting another 2 weeks make a difference, no one really knows, i have today and tomorrow to see if there is more improvement, can't the docs share from their experience in similar cases?
thank you for thinking of me-
If you decide to go, maybe an abdominal binder helps ? Cough drops? I would have both afterwards. People brace the abdomen with pillows also when they have to cough or sneeze post op. Such a hard decision to make with the unknown.
thank you for the advice, the pillow seems to be a good starter, I still have till early Friday morning
to make a decision- I let you know
I have a chronic cough and I'm having a hysterectomy on Aug 8th.
I'm worried about how to control the cough during recovery, I know it's going to be painful!
I take Tessalon pearls, which help with the cough. You could ask your Dr to prescribe some for you.
