Surgery went well!

Posted by drcopp @drcopp, May 8 7:34am

Hello All:
My surgery went well yesterday, using narcotics only at night to sleep, minor pain with catheter at tip of penis, using a cold pack for incisions and taking my usual medicines. My wife was a major positive, helping me to get things that I needed.
I had some balance stuff at first, but that is clearing. My dr. said my core will burn and feel like a did a million reps of exercise.
Thank you for your support!

Im in my 4th week after surgery, and usually by the 3rd day, the soreness subsides a lot, or at least it did for me. Make sure to walk, walk, and more walking. I too had vertigo after surgery, and during my overnight stay in the hospital. Due to my vertigo, i was already a day and a half behind on my walking. It was horrible. The catheter is annoying, but the days flied by, and then it was taken out. The wife and I were just talking how fast 4 weeks have already past, and it just seems like yesterday they we were wheeling me into the surgery room. I do have some leaking, but not bad, but it sure does feel different now when peeing. I still get the bladder spasms at night, and they feel like gas cramps, but tolerable. Good luck my friend, for we are on the road to recovery!!!!!!!

Were you operated on with a single port Di Vinci machine? I would assume there would be less soreness than a multiple incision machine. How long did your surgery take?

So glad it went well! Be careful of your core while you heal up 🙂

@troxel Hello-it was the 6 incision model of care, I did see an article that compared the single incision vs. multiple incision model, and the results are the same, all good.

@layingthegroundwork It was the da Vinci, in which they removed the area lymph nodes, seminal vesicles, and prostate entirely. They spared the nerves, sutured up the urethra to the bladder.

@mpersonne Thank you for your advice and for sharing your experience! I am doing well so far, the soreness is getting better. I do best when standing or lying down, sitting is still not very comfortable, the catheter is irritated each time that I move, so I lube it up with either Vaseline or antibiotic cream. Thanks for the tip on the bladder spasms at night-I had not heard of this. Do you take a medicine for this?

@drcopp Thank you! I am taking a similar path. It will take place in June, so please keep us informed of any tricks you pick up during your recovery.

Great you are doing well. Best wishes on your continued recovery.

For those who have had RP surgery, did anyone use an “ice machine” to help with recovery?

After both rotator cuff and lumber fusion surgeries, I have used an ice machine to help reduce inflamation and make recovery easier.

Like using ice packs.

No, I just used an ice pack over the lower belly for days 1 and 2, rolled up small towel to support my scrotum while seated.
