Surgery Behind Me

Posted by srobinet @srobinet, Mar 11 8:26pm

I had my Bilateral Mastectomy yesterday at 7:30 am. I am home today and so grateful that this cancer is no longer in my body.
The tumor was not attached to my chest wall as I feared but was close. The surgeon feel good about the margins. Now the wait begins for the final pathology. I'm hoping I do not have to do chemo but will do whatever it takes .

I am tired if course and very sore but not having significant pain. It seems worse today than yesterday. I did sneak a peak at my chest without taking off the full breast binder. It looks better than my mind had imagined it. I can do this . I'm glad this part is behind me. My sister has been great taking care of me and my entire family has let me know how much they love me these last few weeks. I am blessed to have such support.

Great news. I love you have your sister, I did too. I had drains, did you? I forgot to say i had three days of Norco, then few says of high dose Tylenol. All prescribed. My silly sister was worried i would get addicted to the Norco. I will say 3 years later and i have a number left. Just in case.
My tumor was close too, but my dr felt the same on the margins. I did have chemo due to the BRCA2 and the Her2. Family. This is the time our families let us know. Your family sounds wonderful.
I hope to the margins are good. Even then, they do have medications now that live to kill remaining cancer cells if there are any.
A day at a time.

Congratulations! You are an excellent example for me facing the unknown. God bless and keep you cancer free. 🙂 I appreciate you have a sister to assist you! I am also fortunate to have two sisters that have both experienced the Mayo Cancer Center. They promise to take good care of me. It's comforting to have someone. My partner died in 2018 from liver cancer. And what a relief for you that the surgery is done. I send you applause so loud that it sounds like a Chiefs football game!
