Supplements

Hello everyone. Has anyone here ever tried any of these supplements like, " Nuphoria ", " Nerve Renew", or R- Alpha-Lipoic-Acid". Would like to see if someone has actual experience with them. Thank you.

What has worked very well for my PN has been Benfotiamine
300-600 mg/day. Pretty amazing actually.

Thanks for reply. Is your neuropathy diabetic? Or do you know what caused yours?

Thanks John. I kind of thought it would be from my back also. Reason being is that my feet NEVER burn at different times. Always the same time. So let's say it was small fiber neuropathy, how would both feet burn at same time always? Surely one foot can't tell the other , hey it's time to burn. My MRI does show my 4 bulging disc pressing on my sciatic nerve. Only way to fix this would be back surgery I suppose. What Brand of the lipoic acid do you take? Thanks. Jerry

One sentence here caught my eye. I have small fiber neuropathy. One of the hallmarks is symmetrical pain. Yes, both feet (or hands, or hips, etc) at the same time.

The na-R-ALA I take now is just one of the supplements in the combined capsules I take with the Protocol - (FAQs - https://theprotocolworks.com/faq/). We used to individually order the supplements from an updated list with links to the individual manufacturers website or through Amazon until the group worked with a Florida pharmaceutical company to combine the different supplements into fewer capsules per day. Before we switched to na-R-ALA we had previously been using a Premium Supplements brand that is not sodium stabilized - https://www.amazon.com/R-Alpha-Lipoic-R-LIPOIC-count-STRENGTH/dp/B01M0QS5C7/.

If I remember right I think we also used Geronova Research na-RALA but it was more spendy. Here's the product link but it's only 115mg so it would depend on how much you take daily as to the cost - https://www.amazon.com/Geronova-Research-Lipoic-Acid-vcaps/dp/B003JOBI3C/. I'm taking 1200 mg daily (600 mg morning and evening) so it would be expensive.

Thanks for your reply. So both feet and calves would burn at exact same time?

Thank you. Mine is not Diabetic. Dont know cause yet. Can get into Neurologist until mid March. What type neuropathy do you have? And do you have burning? And do you take any supplements that would help relieve burning, or know of any? Sorry so many questions. I have only had this for around 4 months. First just bottom of feet. Now going up ankles and shins and calves. Sure seems to be progressing rapidly. Any help 🙏 is appreciated.

Hello John. Thanks for response. You mean pinched or compressed nerves in back? Or lower legs, ankles? Would pinched nerves give me a regular EMG? I thought if EMG was regular that this would mean Small Fiber Neuropathy? Also, what brand NA-R-Alpha Lipoic Acid do you take? Also, I was reading on Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy, that small fiber nerves are very robust and do heal. Have you ever read that? Thanks. Jerry

I’ve had neuropathy for 35 years now. It started on the bottom of my feet and slowly progressed up to just pass my waist. I no longer suffer the excruciating pain I once did. As my neuropathy worsened the pain decreased and changed to numbness. Although the numbness is irritating, it’s much better than the pain. However, the complications that come with it sometimes make me think I’d rather have the pain back. As a result of neuropathy, I have bladder, bowel and ED problems my doctors believe were caused by it. Hopefully it won’t it won’t afect my heart, respiration or muscle weakness any more than it already has.
Always have any new symptoms checked.
If those symptoms aren’t properly addressed, they can become permanent.
Hopefully yours has progressed as far as its going.
Take care,
Jakei

@jerryw I have been to a variety of neurologists during the past 8 years and a comment made to me by several was to exercise when you can. Johns Hopkins told me they are not 100% sure why but neurologists feel that exercising will, perhaps, slow down the progression of PN. I figured what do I have to lose so I do my best to walk 3 times a week. My progression has remained about the same for the past 2 years. And I don't mind losing a few pounds!
