Supplements - Any lower PSA for you?

Posted by donvoss @donvoss, Oct 23, 2023

Anyone trying to lower their PSA with the following supplements? What dosage and how often?
DHA fish or algae (scitechdaily)
Lipsomal Artemisinin for ferotosis - binds with iron to kill cancer cells. Iron feeds cancer agressively.
Nano curcumin
Nano ginger
Ursolic acid
Luteolin
Capsacin from cayenne peppers
Saffron
Astaxanthin
Agaricus bisporous mushroom
Turkey tail mushroom
green tea extract
Ceylon cinnamon

The science is very weak on any link between supplements and PCa progression. As long as you talk to your oncologist to make sure what you're taking isn't harmful, though, it doesn't hurt to try (except for the extra money you spend). We all have tough choices to make, and we're the only ones who can make them for ourselves, so best of luck!

I take Turkey Tail Mushrooms and Turmeric with black pepper in tomato juice every morning.

I took Saw Palmetto, and another type prostate supplement for years.
Did absolutely nothing. That is only my experience. Might do better for
someone else!

Do you have prostate cancer or are you just trying to bring down PSA? Look at the research on sulforaphane. Broccoli sprouts are a good source. If you have PC and are getting treated is is important to understand all the mechanisms involve so you don’t take a supplement that reduces efficacy of your chemo. That said, there are academic studies that show potential synergy of certain supplements with specific chemotherapy. Also look at Ivermectin. I have a rare and aggressive stage 4 adenocarcinoma with lot’s of Mets. FOLFOX for 2 months did almost nothing. High PDL-1 on genetic test so started Keytruda and Ivermectin plus Lycopene, quercetin and niacinamide. All urological symptoms are gone, CEA down from 30 to 3.6, PSA at 2. Scan shows significant reduction in lymph nodes, peritoneal Mets and prostate volume. All after just 3 treatments. Added Xeloda and continuing treatment to try to get rid of this nasty stuff. Keytruda did take out my thyroid gland but it’s a trade off for survival. Good luck and keep the faith.

donvoss, Prior to my prostrate cancer I was a supplement nut. If I read something that was suppose to be good for you I would research it (web MD and research sites).

When I was diagnose with 3+4=7 and was starting proton treatments I was told to come off all supplements that were antioxidants. They went over everyone I took and gave me okay or not okay.

What they (UFPTI radiologist/oncologist) told me is those supplements have be shown in some research to help protect cells from damage. Problem I was told they also protect the cancer cells. Proton and photon radiation is done to damage the cells of the cancer. Normal cells can repair themselves but the type of prostrate cancer cannot repair themselves and die off. So radiation is to damage the cancer cell and prevent it from growing and reproducing.

I was asked to come off, selenium, saw palmetto, green tea, reservatrol, lycopene as all were antioxidants. I had to stop them 2 weeks prior to treatments and wait 2 weeks after.

UFHPTI is University of Florida Health Proton Treatment Institute in Jacksonville Florida. Been doing proton treatments since 2006 and recently received a 25 million dollar federal grant to do long term research on treatment outcomes for proton radiation and photon radiation.

Not sure if you are looking for supplements to help prevent or help with cancer. I was shocked to be told to stop the supplements as they protect the cancer cells during radiation just as they protect the normal cells. UFPTI stated research was not yet proven as fact but enough to enact withholding supplements for radiation treatment care.

What about drinking pomegranate juice I read that it is good for the prostate

If any of them do lower PSA, does it also reduce incidence of cancer or just lower PSA?

Unfortunately there is not an easy way to know if Saw Palmetto helped. Without it you might not have survived?

I take a supplement and also add it to my oat meal. Yep heard it was good for overall inflammation and antioxidant.

I was wondering about my taking of supplements if worthwhile and when my radiologist/oncologist stated some research was indication not only protects normal cells but cancer cells too and could not take them during treatments.

I am not sure they did any good prior or will so after word but if not causing and negative affect on my body can't hurt to try them. I just try to stay withing daily recommended limits.

peperfarm, seems not a lot of conclusive evidence. I do know UFPTI is doing long term study on proton and photon cancer and treatments and are big on stopping antioxidants prior to, during, and right after radiation treatments. This is because antioxidants research has demonstrated some evidence of protecting normal cells from damage as well as cancer cells and that is the goal of radiation to damage cancer cells so they will eventually die off.

If you read one article will tell you it will help, then another says no evidence will. I am not a good nutrition person, meaning don't eat a lot of different things so I take supplements. I have read lycopene has much more influence on prostrate than saw palmetto. This is a natural bi-product of tomatoes. I love tomatoes but still take a supplement.

I do know my Mayo electrophysiologist wants me to take magnesium to reduce PVCs, and my heart failure doctor wants me to take C0-Q-10 to help with pain side affects from statin drugs, and fish oil to help with reduction on triglycerides and cholesterol .
