Success with Prolia?

Due to stomach issues, I have been advised to have intravenous injections to treat my osteoporosis. I am leaning towards Prolia. Does anyone have any success stories? It seems all I hear about are the awful side effects.

Wow, thank you so much @windyshores 😊 You are incredibly knowledgeable about all of this. It sounds like you may have an excellent doctor taking care of your osteoporosis. What are the two blood tests that you mentioned? What do they measure? Thank you so much for sharing your helpful information!

@hello1234 thank you. You might want to get Dr. Keith McCormick's recent book "Great Bones" at the library or online. Dr. Ben Leder from MGH also has an excellent video about Sequencing and Combinations of meds online.

CTX measures bone turnover, which is targeted by bisphosphonates, Prolia and, to a lesser degree, Evenity.

P1NP assesses bone formation and is especially relevant for Tymlos, Forteo and Evenity. Good luck!

I have been receiving Prolia injections for 5 years and just had cold intolerance when I first started. That was manageable. That side effect went away before my second injection. I have fallen twice since then once a kneecap fracture and a few years later a hip fracture. I am convinced that the Prolia kept my fracture s from becoming serious breaks. My bone density is stable. Hope this helps.

I am 72. My T-scores are: -2.2 in the hip and -3.3 in the spine.

I have been receiving Prolia injections for 5 years and just had cold intolerance when I first started. That was manageable. That side effect went away before my second injection. I was on Prolia for 2 years and during that time I fell and fractured my femur. Then I had a spontaneous fracture of my tibia/ankle then patella. With those last two fractures my doctor concluded that I was failing Prolia therapy so was started on Tymlos. Although that is not the usual sequence for treatment it was felt no other options. I’ve been on the Tymlos for 6 months and will recheck my p1p and ctx levels this month. After Tymlos I will be transitioned to either Prolia or Reclast.

I'm sorry to hear about your fractures. Hopefully, Tymlos will be safer and tolerable. I had considered Tymlos but since I had radiation to the chest area after my DCIS surgery 12 years ago, I am not a candidate for Tymlos.

I have just done 11 months of Evenity without any known side effects. [I also have had osteoarthritis now for 30 years, so if I had any joint pain, I would have attributed it to the arthritis. ] I also took Fosomax for nearly 20 years and not only did it not increase or stop the loss of bone density, it has cost me my teeth due to necrosis of the jaw after a root canal procedure. [It is so severe I can't have even any implants done.]
My concern/problem is what do I do next? I wish I could just stay on Evenity!! It has been the best osteo drug that I've taken.
My doctor wants to put me back on Fosomax, which I will not even consider, and all the other options seem to have too many risks to outweigh the benefits. I already have GERD, and 11 spinal fractures--why would I want to take another drug whose side effects would only increase those risks and/or make the GERD even worse.

I cannot give a report on my 'successful numbers' yet. After my next shot, which will be aat the 2 year mark, then I will get my next bone density.
I know that many have commented on the book "Great Bones", but on checking this out, this author is a chiropractor. I prefer to stick with specialists in the field for direction.
