Stopping HRT after heart attack.
I am a 69 year old woman who has been on HRT for 15 years. They are the best thing ever! I had a heart attack and the doctor is making me wean off of them. I have been off for four days and all of my hormone symptoms are back! Has anyone else dealt with this and did you go on other medications to help? Before HRT…I tried all of the creams, supplements etc and nothing helped…but I know new meds are out there now. Did anyone’s doctor let them stay on HRT after a cardiovascular event? I have found a couple of research papers that say it is ok…but most say you have to stop using them. Thanks

I am far outside any study or expertise on this topic, but I do know, or recall reading, that HRT is associated with reduced osteoporosis and heart disease, so this decision is beyond me. You should make a concerted inquiry to your doctor to understand. My advice, for what it's worth.

1 ReactionI was successfully taking premarin vaginal cream for over 25 years before my stroke 8 months ago at age 82. Could that have been a cause?
What HRT were you taking?
