Does H. Pylori lead to stomach cancer?

Posted by hogan_g1937 @hogan_g1937, Jun 25, 2018

Good afternoon to all, My husband was recently treated for HCC with chemotherapy and radiation. He was recently treated for H Pylori bacteria. in a month he will need to take a breath test to see if the bacteria is gone. I know that this type of bacteria can cause stomach cancer. Has anyone diagnosed with this bacteria led to stomach cancer? Any information on this topic will be appreciated. I fear that he has stomach cancer due to some of the symptoms listed. Hopefully I am over thinking this.

Dear Mayo Clinic Connect Members,

I regret to inform you that I do not have nor have I ever had an H. Pylori infection according to this negative H. Pylori IgG/IgA/IgM antibody blood test. I told everyone around me that I finally had a diagnosis until now. 😢

I tested negative for H. Pylori on biopsy by upper endoscopy procedure, 15-20 urea breath tests and 10-15 stool antigen tests over the past 6-9 months. For these reasons I’m giving up on an H. Pylori diagnosis and all of my doctors have dismissed it now, too.

However, my symptoms fit an H. Pylori infection, chronic gastritis/duodenitis were discovered on upper endoscopy and I respond well to H. Pylori treatment. This leads me to believe I have a different infection in my upper GI tract and it’s either bacterial or parasitic in nature. 🦠

I’m working with a new specialist now and I’d like your thoughts on an alternative diagnosis. What bacterial or parasitic infections in the upper GI tract are chronic and produce symptoms that mimic an H. Pylori infection??

Also, I'm struggling to locate an infectious disease physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating parasitic infections in the North Texas region. Can you recommend someone for me? If so, please forward me his/her contact information so I can schedule a new patient appointment right away.

Thanks for your feedback!! 🙏

I too have this same issue and would be interested in following this link as more information is learned and remedies are found . My problems have existed for years and I've had different diagnoses and am usually just given an antibiotic when a recurrence occurs of the pain and other symptoms. But I don't like continuing to take the antibiotics over and over.

Howdy, Ya'all!I want to let you know that I finally have the RIGHT diagnosis. I'm on Day 10 of the 14-day treatment plan for my H. Pylori bacterial stomach infection and I feel fantastic! The abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue and weight loss are almost a thing of the past. I've gained 2 lbs of body weight since I began treatment 9 days ago! I feel like I've been given a whole new body and a second chance at life!Thank you all for your support during this challenging, 10-month long living Hell that I wouldn't wish upon even my worst enemy.-kidprodigy

Hello help me please . Am terribly suffering from chronic H/pylori for almost three years now. I have used a lot of medicines like Heligo kit which consist of clarithromycin cupses, tinidazole, and secnidazole three times, with no improvement. Then I used the mixture of tetracycline, secnidazole, and pantoprazole for two weeks with no improvement again. Doctors decided to do endoscopy and removed a tissue to check for the types/ species of h.pylori and among the twelve species checked ten were positive with no medicine response. Dr recommended me to use BISMUTH and RIFABUTIN, and continue using pantoprazole but unfortunately BISMUTH AND RIFABUTIN are not available in my country (TANZANIA) I'M ALSO SUFFERING FROM PEPTIC ULCERS AND GASTRITIS. Help me please.

My H Pylori was cured using antibiotics. I also take pantaprazole for Chronic Gastritis and to keep the acid under control. I also had a bleeding ulcer repaired via endoscope. I eat a low acid diet all the time. No booze, soda, lot's of water. No aspirin or Ibuphrofen. Cut out any spicey foods. Good Luck!

hope less… heathy 30 yr old male
an infection started In the lg intestines causing two fistulas to bury though the anal muscles cause two external abscesses to burst which now leaks puss and fecal matter all the time.
Which would be treatable except for the ulcers that were found during the colonoscopy which have been biopsied awaiting results but doc says most likely crohn disease
Therefore he doesn’t want to treat the two fistulas due to complications with the underlining disease
Highly likely to cause Incontinence
Extremely painful bm extremely restricted diet and no hope …

Hello everyone, my daughter began suffering from very specific symptoms 3 years ago after a trip to Mexico. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, chronic/debilitating fatigue, spontaneous uticaria wheals (skin rash), chronic acne after 2 rounds of failed Accutane. After multiple doctor visits over 3 years, too many tests to list, so many blood vials drawn I am surprised she has any blood left. WE FINALLY HAVE A DIAGNOSIS!!!! The original endoscopy showed Eosinophilic esophagitis EOE of an unknown origin. Original biopsies were negative for H. Pylori. 2 years later they did a repeat endoscopy and her biopsy is positive for H. Pylori. I am praying she will improve over the next 2 weeks. Never give up, there is a diagnosis out there, you have to keep looking.

I am very happy for you. My daughter has spent the last 3 YEARS searching for answers. She finally got her diagnosis yesterday of
H. Pylori. I almost burst into tears when the doctor called. We are looking forward to what the next 2 weeks will bring. Reading your story is very encouraging. I am praying for a new life for her. Thank you for sharing.
