still in pmr pain but markers are normal?

Posted by mcgrattm @mcgrattm, 3 days ago

Told i had pmr, Intense pain and very high blood inflammation markers. Start prednisone, pain instantly reduced. Tapering back prednisone and all markers are normal but pain is back. Doctor say the pain (neck, shoulders, groin) can't be from pmr if inflammation markers are normal. Says must be old neck and back issues even though feels just like pmr. Can you still have pmr a d nor.al markers. Doctor want to continue tapering me off my current 5mg of prednisone

Not sure this is a valid comment from doctors. Of course SED rate can go down and you still suffer from PMR - If you read about PMR it will plainly state that markers can go back to normal but you still have PMR
When I was first diagnosed with PMR years ago - my SED rate was very high. Since then - normal. But I have been on Prednisone for many years so, yes, markers are now normal

Yes. Many people with PMR have normal ESR and CRP.

Hello @mcgrattm, I would like to add my welcome along with @brittg, @mark2471 and others. You are not alone with normal labs and PMR symptoms. You might find the following discussion helpful:

Prednisone and biologics lower SED Rate and CRP markers. That is why we take them. If you reduce the dosages or frequency, the markers will go back up.
