I’m looking for information on stem cell therapy as an alternative for hip replacement. Any information ?

@kdukes52, there are several discussions about stem cell therapy in the Bones, Joints & Muscles group. Here are a few you may wish to review:

While these discussions are not specific to regenerative medicine for the hip, I think you'll find a lot of relevant and related information. I'm also tagging fellow members @gailb @cobweb and @winning to join this discussion.
It is so important to do your homework and due diligence when researching new treatment options. Stem cells offer a lot of hope. But where these is hope, there is hype and charlatans as this FDA warning illustrates:
– FDA acts to remove unproven, potentially harmful treatment used in ‘stem cell’ centers targeting vulnerable patients https://www.fda.gov/newsevents/newsroom/pressannouncements/ucm573427.htm

Another service I encourage you to take advantage of is Mayo Clinic’s Regenerative Medicine free Consult Service. If you call them, you will talk to a live person who will provide more information, research, and advice on seeking stem cell therapy from reputable providers, even if that provider is not Mayo Clinic. Their primary goal is to educate and help you find effective treatment.
Furthermore, you can add your name to a database to be notified when additional studies and information become available. Here’s more information about the stem cell Consult Service http://www.mayo.edu/research/centers-programs/center-regenerative-medicine/patient-care/clinical-services/regenerative-medicine-consult-service. Or simply call 1-844-276-2003 to speak with one of our experts.
Phew, that's a long-winded response to your simple question Kdukes. Are you considering a hip replacement?

Thank you…I will call the consult service tomorrow
Thank you Coleen for the information. I have two painful hips and do not want hip replacements. I've looked into Stem Cell therapy and found that Mayo can do it, but it's not cheap and health insurance doesn't pay for it. At least that's what I've been told. Right now I have five weekly appointments starting March 20 for Viscosupplementation injections of Supartz. This will provide a cushion and prolong hip replacement surgery. Hopefully before then health insurance will begin to pay for stem cell therapy. I'm having it done at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ.
Coleen, I clicked on You can read more about stem cells on the FDA’s website here: https://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/Transparency/Basics/ucm194655.htm and it says, "Page Not Found."
Thank you for the info!
In 1 yr a pad can b inserted if bone on bone. I will put off knee surgery since i found out. That's all i know.
That's what Mayo said? How can I look this up? Great news!
You got that info from Mayo? I called the consult line this morning and am waiting for a call back. I hope it’s the same for hips.
I heard from a reliable source, I will b getting PRP and stem cells. I will not add to this. Not from Mayo, if u cn hold out for a year – Maybe.
Is the pad inserted after stem cell treatments? Can stem cells be used in bone-on-bone cases?
