Stealth belt for urostomy?

Posted by annedallas @annedallas, Jun 3 11:02am

Prior to my cystectomy, the stoma nurses mentioned stealth belts, so I bought one. But I can't figure out what benefit it provides. I'm a woman, and just tuck my urostomy bag into my panties to hold it in place and wear the 1" Hollister belt to support it. Am I missing something?

Hi @annedallas Some people really like a support belt like the stealth belt - I think it really works if your bag is not supported by your underwear, or you want extra support.

I think it might be easier for women to find underwear that comes up to your waist and supports the bag than it is for men. And its easier for women to find a one piece bathing suit that will support the bag than for men to find a suit that does the same thing.

I've never felt I needed one either! But I know people who love them.

@susanf8 I too bought a stealth belt thinking it would provide better support. I find it too bulky and hot particularly in hot weather. If you wear the belt and use waist high underwear it provides the same support at a much lower price. The stealth belt in my opinion is more useful for a men.

I had an ileostomy. The opening was maybe 2 inches below my waist and 2 inches to the right of center. I took 2 pairs of (inexpensive) waist-high underpants, sewed the legs together, and slipped the bag between them. I also used the ordinary 1" wide elastic belt. This worked for me (a female).

It is the support around the flange helps to keep pressure so less chance for hernia.

@dmarr35 Stealth belt has a number of models, including one for hernia support.

They have reorganized under new leadership and relaunched in 2025, following some challenging time that resulted in inconsistent order fulfillment.
