Starting treatment and effect on diagnostic confirmation

Posted by jp22070 @jp22070, Sep 6 9:22pm

Possible cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) or similar in immunocompromised (kidney transplant) patient on 75% O2 high flow cannula with transudate pleural effusion and no fever. Ruled out what we can (CT scan, RH cath, cultures, etc). Considering starting steroids due to 3 days before able to do VATS biopsy. What is the potential for the biopsy to nondiagnostic due to the steroids?

Does anyone have experience with starting therapy when it could effect ability to make a confirmative diagnosis?
