staph colonization?

Hi everyone,
I have 3 infections from staph, my pulmonologist thinks I have staph colonization. Does anyone experience it and how do you deal with it?
Thanks!

I have pseudomonas colonization. First diagnosed six years ago and initially we hit it pretty hard with PICC line IV antibiotics as well as oral antibiotics. Also began inhaled Tobramycin. (I was also dx'd with MAC and bronchiectasis.) No more PICC line after the first one but occasionally do oral antibiotics if my symptoms become a bother. I am dedicated to twice a day airway clearance using 3% with 7% sodium chloride together. I also use the percussion vest once a day. I have not been on inhaled Tobramycin for a couple of years. Unless they come up with something else that I (or they) feel it is beneficial, I'll stick with this current regime. Best of luck.

@fdixon63,
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you have it controlled. Congratulations!
Dr. Winthrop said that 30% of people have staph colonization. It is very common. But I have not heard anyone in our group and another support group, which makes me wonder what a special case I am having. Most people don't have symptoms even if they do have staph colonization. But I do have which leads me to a sputum every time. I do hope eventually I can get rid of it by airway clearance and some medication.

Thanks again.

Hi Irene. I haven't forgotten your question. It may take a day or two to get back with the information. Forgiveness requested. Faye

I'm back with the infor you asked about Irene.
Tobramycin 60 mg/mL inhalation solution, 5 mL twice a day for 28 days.
PICC line, cefTAZidime, 2 g injection, 2 gm every 8 hrs. for 14 days.
Hope that helps.

Thanks so much. Actually I was just researching Ceftazidime yesterday and wondering about it as an option. Did it work well for you in terms of knocking the Pseudo back? Or Did you have to follow it with Toby to get results? I cannot do Toby but maybe Cayston. I was given Meropenem in January for 11 days in the hospital. It worked great while on it but the infection built back up within just one week of my return home. We did not follow it up with anything however. So I am skeptical of trying IV again in the hospital. I need something safe for kidneys and intestines which is why we went with Meropenem. I see that Ceftazidime is also fairly safe for both. I am too afraid to take Cipro or Levo if that is what you take as oral on occasion. No issues with them? Thanks and no hurry to answer. I get it!

I just noticed you were given 2000 milligrams of Ceftazidime 3 times a day. Wow that seems like a lot. I think i only had 1000 milligrams of Mero twice a day. But I am 74, weigh under 100 lbs and have co morbidities...

From what I can tell from my records is that the Pseudo hid away for four months but then I tested positive again. Yes, I did do the inhaled Toby at the same time.
