Spinal stenosis and ablations

Posted by kris27 @kris27, Aug 15, 2023

Hello, I have been having ablations for years with good luck but lately they are not lasting as long and they are not relieving as much pain. Have any of you experienced this? If so, what else have you tried besides surgery?
Thank you
Kris

I'm scheduled for ablation for my lower back L4-5 S1. I have severe spinal stenosis. I'm in constant pain hurts to stand and put weight on my left leg. My left side is the worst. Just wondering others experience with this procedure. The nerve block to determine the area of pain I just about flew off the table. I'm 75 yrs of age.

I've had 2 ablations done to my lower back and they seem to work well for about 1 year each time. They take about 4-6 weeks to take full affect. After each procedure it feels like a sunburn inside my back but after that it is numb for about a year. The only bad effect is that I now feel all of the other pains in my body that I hadn't felt hurting before because that pain was overpowering those pains. It's always something. The fun part of growing old. I also have a spinal stimulator for some (about 10) Tarlov cysts on my spinal nerves. They cause "ghost pains" and the stimulator helps to relieve the pains caused by those cysts. I've had the stimulator for about 3 years now and I've had no problems with it. Hope this information helps someone.

Can you please comment on how much your lower back ablation did for your pain? I am 74 and have resulting back pain when standing from a fractured vertebrae. Thanking you in advance for your answer.

They have an implant for the SI joints now called and I was hoping to find someone that has had it done. It is a spacer that goes in the SI joint called Nevro1

My spinal facet nerves L3-5 bilaterally (vertebrae are fused from DDD) ablations were done 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am having much less pain, which I love! There are spells of the bad pain where my back feels hopeless and seizes in agony like before. However I have had a full night of sleep. Amazing! So hope that this just means everything is settling down. I haven’t taken up my exercise so should call a physio.
I think that will be required by the Pain Clinic. Supposed to have some exercises regime.

I'm 81. Shots won't work. The ablation didn't work either. My left side is worse also, by the way. Had my left hip replaced (for need), but that didn't help the back problem. I think that losing 20 or 30 pounds might help, but that's a struggle.

The first ablation felt like a sunburn inside for about 3-4 weeks and then the whole area and the pain that I had before went numb. It was really nice for about a year and a half. Other pains in my back seemed to pop up since I have multiple problems but that really bad pain went almost completely away.
This 2nd ablation I just got like 2 months ago, either isn’t quite as effective or my pain is worse, or… im just not at that same comfort level. maybe only 50% numb.

I'm 77 and the shots didn't work for me neither. I had an ablation done and that also did't work. I have lower back pain and the only relief I have is when I'm sitting down. I agree about losing pounds and it is a struggle. I miss the days I spent at the gym working out and meeting people.
