Hello, I am new to this site. Seventeen months ago I was in a car accident that changed my life forever. Suffered two broken bones and found out I have ostoprosis. I am under a pain management doctor that has helped me greatly. First of all he is a wonderful christian man whom I trust! I am sixty four and lack one more year before I can retire due to health insurance. I also suffer from servere depression. It is all I can do to work eight hours and pray that my master will make a way. I can't afford not to work and I can't get medicare until I am 65. I am considering the pain stimulator. Just had the nerves burned so I'm praying that will help. Therefore if you know the Lord as your personal savor I am pleading that you will join me in prayer and asked to Lord to help. As I read the posts I realize there are so many that are suffering, I will remember you as well. Sometimes in life we have limits where we can help someone. What we can do is Pray to the one that has no limits.

Prayer first always! You are in a situation to have to trust the LORD for help. But it will come and read about nutrients that help your condition as well. Some damage can slowly heal with proper nutrition. We are what we eat. I myself do take 100 mg gabapentin at bedtime after using the tens unit for 40 minutes. Brings me much relief. I'm 77 year old with nerve irritation due to CKD.

Physiology, type of injury. Don' t really know. Haven't had much success w/ gabapentin either.

I’m going to go For it also. Can’t be any worse than now.

I had the trial for pain cord stimulator. My Mayo Dr
sent me to a closer Dr. at the time I thought it helped 50 percent, that was until the week was over.
I quickly realized it helped 70 percent and I can’t wait to get the implant. Honestly the buzzing affect
didn’t bother me as much as pain.
I ended up with help from lead manager, who called everyday, to set it just on my legs. My back hurts but not as bad as legs. I want to walk, I’m very weak I haven’t done much in 2 years.

I am on the list to get one in a few weeks. Do you also take medication for the other 30% if you think it helps 70%?

What do you all think about physicians getting "kick backs" for referring device companies? Just checked on the Pain Mgt doctor I have an appointment with and the website gave the amount he was given for his stimulator referrals and the year received. Think that might cloud their judgement?

Many thanks for sharing this. It shouldn't surprise me, but I'll admit I was a little taken aback. For so many reasons I am more and more uncomfortable with going through with the implant that my pain doctor has been recommending. The whole idea of manipulating the spinal cord is scary, and I am so thankful to have access to other options that do give substantial relief. As far as the kickback is concerned, it seems to me that it is a question of the intention of the doctor - whether he/she is convinced that this is the best option to produce the best outcome for the patient (and the kickback is a coincidence), or if the sole reason for its recommendation is just to make money at any cost. Your comment is much appreciated!

Hello @bettyg81pain. You will notice I have moved your post into an existing discussion on SCSs that you can find here:

I have an Abbott SCS implanted February 20th. Seems to help with baseline pain 5 to 2. High end pain 10 is about 5% of time from 10 to 8. Can adjust it myself on advice of rep. Have a couple other apps I can try.

I had a Boston Scientific stimulator inserted. After 5 adjustments, no good results, therefore I had it removed.
