Spiculated nodule
Hi. New to this group. I have prostate cancer, COPD, emphysema and multiple nodules in my lungs. I had a wedge resection a few years ago but no cancer now a resent CT showed a 5 mm Spiculated nodule. I have my three month repeat ct tomorrow. I know I have to wait for the results to see if it’s growing. I’m just wondering if anyone has had that kind of nodule? Everything I’ve read said they are 90-98% cancerous. They put me in a lung nodule and lung cancer clinic. Thanks for any information.

I've had nodules that were watched until they were large enough to biopsy. Mine were part solid ground glass nodules though. I can tell you that the nodule needs to be 1cm before they will biopsy it and they will want to biopsy this to verify that this is a new primary vs a metastasis from the prostate. Treatment will vary depending on its being primary vs met.
Welcome to this wonderful and caring group! I have never responded before. So here goes. I have COPD, MAC, Aspergillosis, Bronchiostatious ( all lung diseases ). So I have several lung nodules. Just recently I had a 1 cm spiculated nodule! It had grown from 8 mm to 1 cm in 3 months. When a CT was repeated. My pulmonologist was sure it was cancer. A PET scan was done and results determined it was inflammation only! It is possible to be something other than the worst. I am no Dr to give advice. Just a caring individual that experienced it. Sending prayers and hugs your way. Please keep me updated!:)
Hello @rtyrrell , welcome. It's often difficult to know what these nodules are, but they are certainly scary. Have you received the scan report yet? Any growth?
Hi. Just had me scan so 3-4 days I’ll know the results.
@rtyrrell, how are you doing? Did you get the results of your testing in the meantime? Any update?
@vdart, thanks for coming out from behind the scenes. Your message is an important one. Lung nodules are not always cancer. I'm sure you were nervous waiting for the results of further imaging and then very relieved to find out that in your case it was inflammation, not cancer.
Yes. Evidently now, three months later, it’s a 10 mm nodule with satellite nodules also. They couldn’t get a RADS number so they’re doing another scan in a month and I have an appointment with a pulmonologist next month at our lung nodule clinic.
Not sure if you find the experience of testing and waiting scary. I was diagnosed with lung cancer 25 years ago and I still get very anxious a few weeks before and after a scan. My family doctor prescribes Xanex type medicine for me at those times which really helps with the low times, and help me sleep at night. Stress is impedes healing. Xanex type drugs help take off the edge and let you escape from the worry.
Yes. It is stressful waiting. I’ve been dealing with prostate cancer for 16 years. For some reason lung cancer seems scarier than stage 4 prostate cancer. Lol. I do good with scans and bloodwork. It’s the waiting to see what the doctor wants to do next. And yes, I take THC gummies just to sleep. Thanks
@rtyrrell, ignoring Dr. Google is the first step to eternal happiness! Seriously, there is more misinformation on Google, TikTok, Instagram, etc. than good. If you are looking for more information on lung cancer, start with lungevity.org, go2.org, and iaslc.org. Johns Hopkins, the Mayo clinic, and the NIH are good sources of factual information, as well. Be sure to ask your doctor how soon he/she will have their results. My doctor has always been good about telling me 10 days for this result and 3 weeks for that one.
All the best to you, and a long life!
