Spiculated Lung Nodule - new diagnosis
I am new to the discussion. I was disgnosed with a spiculated 10x7 mm nodule and several other smaller nodules. I am a former smoker, this disgnosis was found on a routice CT Lung Screen. There is no prior scan to have a starting point. I have a PET SCAN next week and my PULM doc ordered a blood test that screens for cancer and screens the DNA. I am unsure of the name of this test but it takes 10-14 days to come back. I am scared of a cancer diagnosis but more scared of any waiting to see if it grows process. Any suggestions and guidance are appreciated.

Sorry to read this. I have nodules also and have to get a scan every few months. So I do understand the waiting part. So far mine have not progressed. If it’s any comfort, most nodules are benign. I have had mine for 3 years now. Former smoker with severe copd. I do hope yours are not cancer.

4 ReactionsHello and welcome. Finding a spiculated follicle is frightening. I understand how you are feeling because I just went through it in July. I am glad you got a PET scan scheduled quickly.
Something that helped me some was to tell myself “one day at a time.” Fortunately, the doctors have experience in what steps are needed. I hope your outcome is good and you have a good care team.
Please let us know what the PET scan shows.

1 ReactionI’m currently on quarterly scans following lung surgery ‘25 and subsequent immunotherapy treatments for 8 months. It’s great you’re scheduled for the PET. For anxiety, you may want to discuss medication w/primary care Dr. I took a low dose Xanax and changed my diet, more vegetables, fresh veg. Juices etc to build up immune system once diagnosed. God bless you, go in Peace and hopefully a good report soon follows!

1 ReactionWelcome @melissamills73, It sounds like your pulmonologist is taking great next steps in ordering the PET and blood tests. Lung nodules can be caused by many things, and some people have them and don't even know it. But it's good to take this finding seriously and follow up. While waiting, I generally try to keep my life as routine as possible. And I try to remind myself that if there is something there that needs action it's best to know about it, and worrying won't change the outcome. Let us know how the PET scan goes. Have you ever had one before?
