Soothing, Open Air, Mineral-Rich, Geothermally Heated Sea Water Pools
I’m wondering if geothermal hot springs are safe for someone with bronchiectasis to immerse themselves. Im in Iceland and am questioning this tour. Do you think NTM is present in these waters?
Thank you!

@cavlover If these are saltwater pools, then I think that Dr Joe Falkinham's rule of thumb that saltwater is not a good host for NTM would apply. After all, that's why we neb 7% saline.
But there doesn't seem to be any research...
This sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity so if it was me, I'd rather have the experience and do extra nebs for a day or two than pass it up.
I would like to agree with Sue...does it depend on the percentage of salt though?
Am spending some time in a home with a Magnesium swimming pool in a couple of months time and have been wondering the same. May I ask what people think?
Here I would ask indoors or out? The air dilution above an outdoor swimmg pool of any sort reduces risk greatly. Conversely, the concentration above an indoor pool increases risk to the point that I avoid them. Sad, because I would love to join my grandsons in the local Y' pool. My ID doc says he feels indoor pools can be risky for any compromised lungs.
It is an outdoors pool, Sue. Hopefully it would be ok.
Many thanks.
Enjoy your time away!
Thank you, Sue. I’m going to research the individual springs. I know that the one tomorrow is geothermal heated sea water pools. Not sure about seawater. On the last day I can go to The Blue Lagoon, but I’ll need to research it.
I have experienced these in Costa Rica years ago before my diagnosis. I feel like Iceland’s water and air are so fresh vs the hot and humid air of Costa Rica.
Thank you! It’s amazing so far!
