Some good news

After the two initial surgeries to remove NMIBC that was fairly extensive, and the second one that found a tiny spot that was missed, I began chemotherapy with GEMDOCE.

I had looked at the statistics for both GEMDOCE and for BCG, and the statistics for GEMDOCE seemed slightly better, so I had my fingers crossed that I would be prescribed that one without having to ask for it, argue, etc.

I had six initial instillations, one per week, not too long after the second surgery. Then another cystoscopy and once per month for a year was prescribed. Given my age of 74, and the extent of the spread of the cancer, I was put into the High Risk Protocol. All the cystoscopies after surgery were clear - before beginning chemo, I think one after the initial six weeks, then on to the once per month chemo treatment with the sixth and twelfth months being a cystoscopy rather than the chemo. At each checkpoint after the second surgery, I was clear.
I cerainly have been dealing with chemo symptoms that worsened after each treatment, in spite of being intravessicle, and I didn't want to have to do the optional second year of chemo, and thankfully, my urological oncologist has set me free from chemo now, with only regular cysts to make sure it doesn't come back.

I feel very blessed that the surgeries and chemo protocols have worked!

Im very happy for you and wish you the best my friend. My name is Rafael, Im 80 years old and just got done with my first GEM/DOLCE treatment, my side effects are minimal. However, I would like to know if side effects get worse from treatment to treatment, I understand that it affects everyone differently , but I would appreciate your input based on your personal experience . I'm 75 and just had my 5th Gem/Doce treatment. I have had minimal side effects. Fatigue is huge and seems to be the only side effect so far. I previously had BCG treatments and they were far worse and were stopped because of side effects. Hope yours, if any are mild.
