Sodium or salt alternatives for flavor
If there is already a similar thread please direct me to it. I am struggling with sodium I guess like a diabetic struggles with glucose. But I have a pallet that needs a little bit of action, and believe me, I have tried for a couple months to not add salt, looking at labels etc. The only way I can really control the intake is to make everything with fresh vegetables. I don't eat meat or dairy as is so no processed meats or foods anymore. But blandness is taking its toll on me. Help!!

@feelingthankful, Thanks for the tip for Lawry's Salt Free 17 Seasoning. Will look for it on next shopping trip I use frequently use Mrs. Dash and discovered I could make my own version from spices already in the pantry. I add more black & red pepper to spice up many meals now and like the added boost they give.
A spritz of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice can lend some "brightness" and flavor to foods. It doesn't exactly taste like salt but is very good.
I, too, was put on a low-sodium diet. I found some salt substitutes on the Penzey's website that I've ordered. Slowly and by hit and miss, I'm experimenting with adding a number of other spices/herbs to my food to make it tasty. Some have worked better than others but I'm working at it. I've read where numeric is a great spice to use and I just ordered a fresh jar of it. The problem with low-sodium diets is not just what we use to cook with but looking at labels. I'm amazed at what I think would be low in sodium that isn't and occasionally I find the reverse - what I think will be high is not.
