So scared: Just found 5cm tumor in rectosigmoid colon: Tips?
Hi. I'm a 45 year old female with no family hx. I don't smoke, drink socially and my diet is "ok". However, yesterday after several months of light bleeding which I thought was a hemorrhoid along with bowel changes, I had a colonoscopy. They found a 5cm tumor in the recto sigmoid colon. They biopsied it and want to schedule surgery to remove it. I'm scared. I'm on night 2 of no sleep because my mind is racing as I consider all the scenarios. Tips? Thoughts? Anything? Is it at all possible a tumor that size would not be cancerous?
I am so scared

I have ulcerative colitis so already get colonoscopies every year. I had a colonoscopy in January 2018 and all was “normal”. I waited until April 2019 for the next one, and when I did the bowel prep, I knew something was wrong because nothing was coming out. They attempted the scope the next morning, and found an obstructing tumor. The GI knee I was cancerous by what it looked like. They did a biopsy but weren’t able to get a big enough sample. CT Scans revealed a mass. I had surgery and they removed a 13 cm tumor from y sigmoid. It was adenocarcinoma. I am still NED
@phylicaf22 The CT scan went well and found no evidence of spread and they couldn’t even see the mass on the CT. So that’s good. My doctor called today and asked me to come in this afternoon with my husband to hear results of everything. I’m worried that because she asked me to bring my husband that it’s cancer. But maybe not. He was there when she gave the results after the colonoscopy so maybe she just wants him to hear everything. She did say I would need surgery to remove it regardless so perhaps she wants him to hear that info as well.
@lisag03 I’m so glad to hear you are NED! And I’m glad you were consistent with your screenings. I pray you continue to stay NED!
@soozymb I agree let me know how it goes today since you have surgery I am sure the doctor preferred to have him hear all that is required
