has anyone had this problem- any time i eat i pass gas that has a horrible odor- it is effecting me emotionally and socially nothing seems to help any advice
Has anyone had problems with trapped pockets of gas -painful and when you press on the area you belch within a few minutes and then it travels to mid back and you squeeze your shoulders together and you belch and then it travels to your xiphoid process and sits for a while and you try Maalox, Tums, Zantac 300 and eventually a humongous long belch and it feels like you lost 10 pounds. This process can last all day long! Told this to my doctor and he has never heard of it. This happens a couple times a year -very uncomfortable and annoying. Have not been able to pinpoint what I eat to produce this -it just happens. Is there a name for this? I used to be on PPI's for ~ 25 yrs and couldn't be without it 4 days or my insides were on fire burning pain. My mom died of breast/bone cancer and needed an antidepressant to get me thru the holidays and took Bupropion for 4 months and when I stopped taking it I realized my GERD was gone and it didn't return for 3 yrs-now its a couple times a week only and I do not take meds for it on a daily basis since I found an article connecting long term PPI usage with stomach cancer. Now I only use Zantac or Tums if needed. and of course 7up.Is there a name for this what I call gas gangrene.??
Hello peacemaker, unfortunately I too have been living with the exact same problem and worry that it could lead to something worst... but I have never tried those things like zantac, so I think I will try that to see if it gets better. Sorry I could not help.
I am a 72 year old woman and have developed a problem with gas. I never had this problem in the past and find it very embarassing. I am interesting in finding out if there are any treatments and what type of doctor to go to see to discuss this type of problem.I see it as more of a problem than my general practioner does. I have tried over the counter products to no avail. Gas X etc. doesn't seem to work for me. I do have GERDS and am unsure if that would cause the Gas I am having. I do have some stomach pain at times but it is minor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would recommend seeing a gastroenterologist who will likely test you for various conditions which may be the cause, such as h pylori infection, or other bacterial infections. Diet and nutrition impact digestion, with some foods causing gas (spices, onions, garlic).

I know someone with a gas problem. He takes two Beano tablets before a meal or snack and problem solved. It may take a a couple of days before the Beano takes effect - and you have to take it consistently - but it does work.
And as @cim37343 suggests, take a teaspoonful of Metamucil in an 8oz glass of water (drink down quickly before it gels!), followed immediately with another glass of water. Takes a couple of days to take effect. I suggest you increase the amount to two teaspoonful after six weeks, and to a tablespoonful after six more weeks. This is great for constipation. I take two tablespoonful a day at the suggestion of my gastroenterologist for my constipation and IBS (I prefer the unflavoured psyllium whole husks at my local health food store).

@elegantgem Consider keeping a food intake and results log.. keep a pad of paper in the kitchen and another in the bathroom and for a week or so ... list the date and meal through the entire day .. snacks and beverages too... in the bathroom ... what was the result each time you pass gas or have a bowel movement.. This log will give your doctors a clue to what is going on... avoid mystery meals for that week of the log... unless the purchased food lists ingredients..

@elegantgem, Here's some information from Mayo Clinic that you might find helpful - "Acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can sometimes cause excessive belching by promoting increased swallowing. Chronic belching may also be related to inflammation of the stomach lining or to an infection with Helicobacter pylori, the bacterium responsible for some stomach ulcers." from:

I have these symptoms when I get very bad gas. For me it's because I'm lactose intolerant (and didn't take enough Lactaid when eating dairy). It's sort of convenient to be able to rub your left breast to burp yourself, but it's also very sore and uncomfortable the whole time so it's not fun. Usually the soreness/burping comes a few hours before farts start releasing gas as well.
In short: I'd bet it's gas, and you should figure out why you're getting gas (lactose intolerance, IBS, etc). I have no clue why it hurts by your armpit but it does... this has been very repeatable for me.

Hi There
I have been facing this issue for over 2 years now
Did Upper GI , endoscopy, colonoacopy, CT with Barrium
Tried every medication you can think of
However I would say Motegrity may help
So, I'm in a wheelchair and every Doctor told me the same thing. It's a Posture issue.
Some food cause irritation in which case gas radiates to the back, abdomen, left breast, and then xyphoid process. Sometimes it feels like I will have a heart attack.
This is what helped me a lot. When you eat or while you wrap this tightly on your chest not waist. Cover both nipples and arm pits and make sure its snug .
For the long term get a posture corrector. It really helps if you use it everyday as per instructions .
Also, warm water packs help
Did you have your Gall Bladder removed?
Did you fall or injure your upper body in last 5 years?

Try a teaspoon of Metamucil in full glass of water daily.

Have you tried goat products? I switched and no longer have any issues.
