Smell Training for Brain Health?

@susanmitchell, My condolences to you Susan, I understand how you must feel after losing your father. You see, I am still grieving the loss of my wife, only five months ago - after 72 years of marriage. That was the purpose for me to sign on today, as I do almost every day, to join the Dementia caretakers site. I was my wife's sole caretaker for six years as she suffered from that horrible disease - and I felt that I might be able to provide some insight for those currently in that position, as to some of the problem solving tactics and dos and don'ts to best maintain their own health and sanity, while giving their loved one all of their love and attention.

Normally I don't read this particular (ageing site), but the subject caught my eye - and after researching the item plus the reviews online, thought it might be what I need to clear my mind. Lately I've been getting what I fear are early warning signs of Dementia (hope I'm wrong) - SO...if this device is able to bring back memory and clear the fog the price will be more than worth it. As noted, I will report what it does, or does not do for me.

This subject is so very interesting but I am wondering how the scents would impact my asthma. I wheeze, cough and get headaches when exposed to perfumes, so it doesn't seem that I could take advantage of this opportunity. Darn!

@crn These are pure, natural scents, not perfumes. The eucalyptus is my favorite. There is peppermint, lemon, orange, and rosemary. They do have a 60 day trial.

@celia16 I was wondering if you or EdSutton bought the Memory Air Machine? I was going to purchase it, and then I was concerned I wasn't on the right site. It seemed kind of "shady".

@trishaanderson , I haven’t purchased it yet. I make no judgement. I actually purchased another product for my hair. Yes…I’ve had excessive shedding since covid. Anyway, I spent over $1500.00 on a red light cap. I hope it’ll help more than my scalp. Lol. In my defense, it was prescribed by a doctor, but all out of pocket. Ouch.

It's not just $399 for the machine; it's $48 a month for the scent belts. I haven't seen anyone mention the monthly cost. Do you have to use the scent belts?

@trishaanderson, Hello Trisha, yes the scent belts are necessary. I received the memory air machine today. It was simple to set up, connect and install the belts. However, I was not aware, when ordering the unit, that this company does not provide a customer service telephone number and have not been able to find one in an online search. That bothers me, when all all contact is by email, is not a very positive position, IMHO. I did want to speak to someone at the company - had a couple of questions.

I did get the unit set up and turned it on when going to bed. However, after about three hours sleep, as usual I had to visit the head. The machine was not running. The literature claims that it runs for five hours while sleeping - checked that it was still plugged in, it was. so I suppose my first action in the morning will be an email to the company for answers.

There is also a lingering odor/aroma that is not very pleasant. Not sure how to describe it, but it is strong and sort of sour. This is the first night of my trial period, so I'll press on for a couple of weeks to see if there are improvements in my memory and if the odor/aroma changes.

Has anyone else experienced the same when using this machine. Short run time and unpleasant odor/aroma?

@trishaanderson, No email necessary - my reason for thinking the device was not running when I first got up, was because there were no lights showing. When I got up this morning I checked the literature prior to sending an email and learned that when the unit is running, there are no lights showing, so that it does not interfere with sleep.

I have used the Memory Air machine for a few months now. I ordered a year's supply of scent belts for a reduced price. Initially, I received two scent belts, but when it was time to change it for the third time, I didn't receive a delivery, so I contacted the company via email. They promptly replied and sent out the scent belt.
As I stated in an earlier post, I had gone from smelling absolutely nothing for the past 6, almost 7 years, to being able to smell many things, although the majority of them are pleasant odors. Interestingly, I can't smell unpleasant odors , such as the smell of a skunk, or even bathroom odors. But I wonder if that is because I'm only subjected to pleasant scents?
Anyway, while I do detect a scent from the machine when it's not on, it smells sweet instead of sour to me.
I am thrilled to be able to smell things again, and my sense of taste has also improved although it's nowhere near where it once was. But I definitely do feel a sense of mental clarity, as well, and my memory and word recall is much better since I started using the machine. So, for me, it's been a win-win!
