Small fiber neuropathy and muscle tightness
Hello everyone,
Anyone have a SFN issue whereby they get muscle tightness which does not subside? Specific area of trapezius and neck muscles, but impact entire body including legs which can impact balance and gait at times. Done many test at Mayo with a conclusion of post viral syndrome and neurology department was almost completely useless except to give you a benzo script. I’ve done all MRIs, CT and Pet scans, no suspected issues with MS or ALS type issues. All started over time when I fell at home and broke my wrist which did not require surgery.
Sound familiar to anyone and any advice?
God bless,
Ed

@robindancer5678 are you sure supplements are causing itching? SFN causes itching. I have that too. Balance issues are a large fiber neuropathy which I’m having as well. They can cause autonomic issues with lungs, heart, sweating, GI, bowels. Anything you can’t control. I hope this helps.
@rhonda1965 I guess I was trying to be concise. Yes, the normal EMG with neuropathy symptoms is another clue leading to SFN diagnosis.

1 ReactionYes! I have diagnosis of SFN, from punch biopsy. My leg calfs are very tight. It causes a lot of leg cramps at night, and balance issues. I also have neck pain from tight muscles. I have gone to chiropractor, but 10 treatments have not helped with the sore muscles. It hurts to turn my neck, like when you look both ways to see if traffic coming. I had dry needling to my neck and it has helped to release the tension in the muscles.
I get muscle cramps in my rib cage too.

I was wondering if your diagnosis was SFN! Sure sounds like my symptoms.
Have you tried a particular diet to help? Truly life changing and doctors are clueless! Thanks for any info!

Hey Ed. Yes, sounds very familiar... the only thing that works for me is trigger point injections down my neck and across Trapezius every 2 months. Without the injections, no range of motion, constant pain, and tension headaches (in addition to weakness in leg muscles and ankles, makinf it nearly impossible to do basic things like get dressed)... w/ the injections (mostly) back to my previous "normal", but I've added low impact excercise to my routine in order to capitalize on the relief the injections provide. Luckily, my PCP administers the injections, which is extremely convenient.
