I suffer with severe legs aching and hips at night. Could use some input what helps. I do use support between my knees. I'm not a back sleeper, so I rotate side to side all night. Just can't find enough relief 😮‍💨 please help.

Hello @darcybechtel67, I was going to say welcome to my world but it's really not a funny matter. I have the same issue. I'm a side sleeper and I go from side to side most nights. I can't sleep too long on my left side even though it's the side that my hip doesn't hurt much when I'm sleeping on it. My arm goes to sleep and I wake up with an arm stinger and have to shake that off and roll to my right side. I use a small travel pillow in between my legs and sometimes under one leg with the legs apart which helps some of the time. When it was really bad I did get a guided steroid shot in my right hip area which helped quite bit. I've also used Voltaren and Salonpass pain patches at times that have helped.

When I really get desperate, I do sleep on my back but then my sleep apnea numbers go through the roof.

Doesn't sound very pleasant.

Have you been checked for osteoarthritis in the hip joints?
Has a physical therapist evaluated you for iliotibial band syndrome? How about a fascia release in your hips?
Do you have peripheral artery disease, or problem with circulation in the extremities?

With that, I'm outta questions...

I do have osteoporosis, I have coronary artery disease. I'm sure that don't help and degenerate discs

I have low back pain that radiates into both my legs at times that causes me pain when I am trying to sleep. I also am flat footed in one foot and use a brace at times to help alleviate the pain from that which sometimes radiates up into my back. I fell backwards off my parents outside basement ledge down into a stairwell when I was a child and landed on my back. It only seemed to knock the wind out of me but since I was a teenager my lower back has hurt me on & off. I also had a hip fx when I was in my 30’s from an accident so I have pain from that at times. That healed up ok as far as I know but does hurt from the weather at times. More recently I had to have a large cancer growth removed from one of my thighs where they had to take a section out of my thigh to remove it. I attend physical therapy sometimes for that and the exercises do help alleviate some of my pain which I feel could be a combination pain of everything I have been thru to do with my legs and back. I started having trouble sleeping in the past few years which when I get more sleep I seem to be in less pain in my hips and legs so I have been trying to figure out what can help me sleep better diet wise as I am not into taking a lot of medication. Walnuts seem to help as do whole wheat bread. Walnuts contain tryptophan, melatonin, seratonin & magnesium I learned which are nutients that can help a person to sleep and stay asleep. Whole wheat bread contains whole grains which helps neurons process tryptophan which encourages insulin production. Whole grains in pasta and bread and cereals and crackers and in brown rice are healthier then simple carbohydrates which can reduce serotonin levels I also learned. There are other foods as well that can help. I’m 65.

I was diagnosed with cancer stage 4 of the sinus cavity massive heart attack and brain aneurysm in 2018. I have been traveling back and forth to the Mayo in Minnesota since last September getting ready to go back next month. Another surgery and will get teeth. Been without teeth since January. So I'm not able to eat much. I just turned 57.
